Confirmation
Having received the gift of the Holy Spirit, let us pray that all our young
people will be empowered to live out the mission of the Church, a mission
that the Holy Spirit gives to each and every one of us - to proclaim the
Gospel of Jesus Christ to all people.
Prayers
Please remember also in your prayers all our young people who are coming
towards the end of their current school or college academic year. Remember
especially those who are taking exams, or completing coursework for end-of-year
assessments, during these weeks. It can be a difficult time for many and
your support in word, deed and prayer is much needed.

Family
Fun Day - St. George Catholic School
St. George Catholic School for Boys, on behalf of the Catholic Parishes
of Southampton, warmly invites you to its Family Fun Day at the School
on Sunday 30th June from 11.00am until 6.00pm. Events will include jousting
on horseback, medieval re-enactments, falconry, animal farm, bouncy castles,
penalty football shoot-outs etc. The purpose of the day is simply to have
fun together and entry is completely free! At the end of the day a celebration
of Mass will be held outside for those who wish to attend.
Parish
Choir
We are blessed in our parish to have a good, strong tradition of music
within our liturgical celebrations. Over the last 20 or more years this
has been largely due to the efforts and leadership of David Cockshoot.
During the last 12 to 18 months several of our established members, including
David, have decided to step down from the choir for a mixture of reasons.
The result is that, at times, the choir in both of our Fareham churches
is rather thin on the ground - on occasions only 2 or 3 strong! We are,
therefore, appealing for new members to come and join us. There are no
expectations of being able to read music (and certainly no auditions!);
just a love of singing and a willingness to help lead the praise in our
parish liturgies are required. We are also in great need of musical accompaniment
- we have sung at a number of Masses with no accompaniment and recently
have developed singing to CD musical tracks. If you play any instrument,
and particularly the keyboard/piano, perhaps you could offer some of your
time (possibly initially only help us out at choir practice while you
develop the confidence to be comfortable playing at Mass.) If you would
like to sample a choir practice (as either a singer or musician) with
no commitment, we would like to invite you to join us on Tuesday 25th
June at St. Philip Howard Church from 7.45pm - 9.00pm. If you are interested
but are unable to make the 25th, then please feel free to come along on
any Tuesday evening. Please contact Chris Lane on 01329 310785 for further
information.
A Taste
of India - Park Place

Indian meal on Sunday 30th June at 12.30pm. Cost is £12.00 (£6.00

THE
UNION
Thought for the Week
Congratulation to all those who received the Sacrament of Confirmation
last Friday evening at St. Philip Howard Church and many thanks to Bishop
Crispian who came to celebrate it with us! The preparation for the Sacrament
has been hard work and I would like to thank all those who have been involved.
That includes the candidates themselves; their families and the devoted
team of catechists, without whom there would be no celebration of Confirmation.
On Friday
evening, those who were confirmed completed the final stage in their Christian
Initiation. As he anoints each candidate with Sacred Chrism, the Bishop
says: "Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit". That simple
prayer makes the confirmed person a co-worker with Christ. In the words
of St. Paul: "It is God who establishes us with you in Christ and
has commissioned us; he has put his seal on us and given us his Spirit
in our hearts as a guarantee." This seal of the Holy Spirit marks
our total belonging to Christ, our enrolment in his service forever, as
well as the promise of divine protection
(Words from the Catechism
article 1296).
Our hearing
of Matthew's gospel today reaches the point when Jesus invites his twelve
disciples to join him as co-workers. Matthew makes it clear that Jesus
does this out of compassion for the crowds, who were "harassed and
dejected like sheep without a shepherd." Our Christian Initiation
fills us with the Spirit of Christ so that we may become his co-workers!
It is important to keep this in mind as we live out our Christian calling,
whether we are newly confirmed or "on the road for a long time"!
Being a Christian, opening our life to God in prayer and coming to together
to celebrate Mass, is all about being a co-worker with Christ. The Christian
religion and the sacramental life are not given to us for entertainment.
We are called and empowered to be labourers who will announce the coming
of the kingdom with gladness and manifest its healing power with love
and trust.

Recently, we explained that we would need to alter the Mass times in

Masses instead of the six that we have become used to.
As from
Sunday 14th July the Masses will be as follows:

Saturday-Sacred Heart
9.00am Sunday-Sacred Heart
11.00am Sunday-St Philip Howard
