Parish
Choir
We are blessed in our parish to have a good, strong tradition of music
within our liturgical celebrations. Over the last 20 or more years this
has been largely due to the efforts and leadership of David Cockshoot.
During the last 12 to 18 months several of our established members, including
David, have decided to step down from the choir for a mixture of reasons.
The result is that, at times, the choir in both of our Fareham churches
is rather thin on the ground - on occasions only 2 or 3 strong! We are,
therefore, appealing for new members to come and join us. There are no
expectations of being able to read music (and certainly no auditions!);
just a love of singing and a willingness to help lead the praise in our
parish liturgies are required. We are also in great need of musical accompaniment
- we have sung at a number of Masses with no accompaniment and recently
have developed singing to CD musical tracks. If you play any instrument,
and particularly the keyboard/piano, perhaps you could offer some of your
time (possibly initially only help us out at choir practice while you
develop the confidence to be comfortable playing at Mass.) If you would
like to sample a choir practice (as either a singer or musician) with
no commitment, we would like to invite you to join us on Tuesday 25th
June at St. Philip Howard Church from 7.45pm - 9.00pm. If you are interested
but are unable to make the 25th, then please feel free to come along on
any Tuesday evening. Please contact Chris Lane on 01329 310785 for further
information.

THE
UNION
Thought for the Week
In today's Gospel Jesus tells us not once but three times not
to be afraid for, in God's eyes, we have a worth and value beyond counting.
There's nothing for us to worry about for our heavenly Father is not going
to allow anything to happen to us without His knowing. He knows even the
number of hairs on our head. He loves us with such an infinite love and
values us so much that He sent His only Son to save us. All He asks of
us in return is to treat each other in the same way that He has treated
us. He wants us to convey to others the same message that He has conveyed
to us: that we are all valuable and lovable beyond all counting.
So where
do we pick up the idea that we are valuable or lovable? We pick up this
idea from other people, especially those closest to us, like our own family.
Frightening as it may seem, psychologists who studied 1,700 students over
a period of six years at the University of California proved that other
people, especially those closest to us, hold the key to our self-image.
Therefore, if other people treat us as not being valuable or lovable,
then that's how we'll begin to see ourselves. On the other hand, however,
if people treat us as being valuable and lovable, then that's how we'll
begin to see ourselves.
If, then,
we treat others in a way less than the Father intends, and make people
feel cheap or unlovable we convey to them a lie, a terrible lie. Not only
do we lie to them but we also destroy their own ability to love as the
Father asks by giving them a low self-image. For if we give people the
idea that they are worthless and unlovable, they will not be able to give
themselves in love to another. Commenting on the importance of other people
in shaping our self-image, Robert Bierstedt of New York University says,
"I'm not who I think I am. I'm not who you think I am. But I am who
I think you think I am." With this in mind, let us convey the truth
this week to someone who may be feeling unlovable or worthless themselves.

Change
in Mass times on Sunday 14th July
Recently, we explained that we would need to alter the Mass times
in our parish. This is because Fr. Chris will be on his own next year
and is permitted to say three Sunday Masses. Fr. Charles has very kindly
agreed to celebrate one Sunday Mass each week. This means that there will
be four Masses instead of the six that we have become used to.
As from
Sunday 14th July the Masses will be as follows:
6.30pm
Saturday-Sacred Heart
9.00am Sunday-Sacred Heart
11.00am Sunday-St Philip Howard
5.30pm Sunday-Our Lady of Walsingham
