THE UNION
Thought for the Week
On this feast of the Holy Trinity we are all asked to reflect on
the mystery and the doctrine of the Trinity and the perfect, unchanging,
loving relationship that the three distinct Persons in one God, Father,
Son and Holy Spirit, have with each other. This loving relationship, which
demonstrates complete unity, respect and equality, is the perfect model
for our own relationships. Although we find it almost impossible to focus
on all three Persons at once, we still need to be careful about concentrating
on one Person of the Trinity at the expense of ignoring the other two.
However, at different times in our lives we may find ourselves relating
to one Person of the Trinity more than another.
I’d
like to share with you three student answers to the question “Which
Person of the Trinity do you relate to best at this time in your life?” One
boy wrote: “My dad and I have no relationship anymore. I need a
father right now, and since I can’t turn to my own dad, I turn
to my Father in heaven.” A girl wrote: “My brother lives
with my dad, and I live with my mum. Ever since my parents’ divorce
two years ago, we hardly see each other any more. I never thought I’d
miss my brother, but I do. So now I’ve sort of adopted Jesus
as my brother.” Finally, another boy wrote: “Just recently I
began to pray to the Holy Spirit. I’m going to college in a year,
and I have no idea what I’m going to take up. I hope the Holy Spirit
will enlighten me. Anyway, I’m praying to Him for guidance.” How
fortunate we are to have three Persons in one God.
Mick O’Sullivan

Christian
Ecology–“The Climate Covenant”
The world is experiencing an upsurge in flooding, drought and damaging
storms. It is caused mainly by industrialised countries burning oil,
coal
and gas. The UK is contributing more to this climate change than the
whole of Africa but the worst effects are being felt in poor countries.
By the
end of the century, rising sea levels and crop failures could create
150 million refugees. This weekend, 14th/15th June, John Vivian
will be speaking at all masses about ‘Operation Noah’ and
ways in which you can help, including signing the “Climate Covenant”.
Further information may also be found at: www.christian-ecology.org.uk/noah
