Cover
Assistants
Over the coming year, the Governors are looking to create a number of
new posts for the role of Cover Assistant. Their main role will
be to look after the classes of teachers who are on short term absence
for whatever reason throughout the school year. A number of these posts
will be created which will be temporary in the first instance and will
be term time only, but could also be part time. Initially, however, they
are also looking to create a pool of Cover Assistants who are prepared
to come in on a day to day basis, but who may not wish to commit themselves
to a fixed commitment at this stage. No teaching experience or qualifications
are required, but successful candidates will be given appropriate
training to prepare themselves for this new role. For further information,
please contact the Head, Chris Whitfield or Martin Lewis, Deputy Head
on the telephone number given above.

THE UNION
Thought for the Week
“Anyone who is not against us is for us.”
Many Christians from all denominations should find these words of Jesus
in today’s Gospel challenging, to say the least. As Christians in
Fareham and Portchester, we have a chance to express our understanding and
acceptance of this statement on Thursday 9th October, at 7.30pm at Ferneham
Hall. Please make a note of this date and time in your diaries today. A
major celebration is to take place on this evening and its purpose is to
enable all Christians from all over the Borough of Fareham to join together
in worship and celebrate our oneness in Jesus Christ. I hope that the Roman
Catholic Church of Fareham and Portchester will be well represented. Normally,
it’s the same few Catholics that have an interest in ecumenism that
attend such events, but if you have never been to an event like this before,
then I suggest you go to this one.
The evening is called “Come Let us Worship”.
As well as a lot of clapping and singing, there will be drama, dance,
prayer and a “creative corner” for people to express how grateful
they are to God through art. Towards the end, there will be a “fellowship
supper”, which will give everyone an opportunity to meet other Christians
from other denominations and share some food and drink together. This
will be a wonderful occasion for Christians of all ages. There are no
tickets, and the evening is free, although there will be a voluntary collection
to help cover the cost of putting on the event. People are advised to
try and come early to make sure that they get a decent seat. Remember
that we are all brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ and have but one
Father in Heaven, so let’s thank the Lord together for that.
Matthew Carter
This weekend we welcome back to our community Matthew Carter who, after
several month’s discernment and in conjunction with the Diocesan
Vocations Team, has decided not to continue with his training for the
priesthood due to academic difficulties. It is good to have him back with
us in Fareham and Portchester Parish and I have assured him of all your
prayers and support.
Sean Hogan R.I.P.
The funeral of Sean Hogan will take place on Tuesday 30th September at
Sacred Heart Church at 1.00pm. Refreshments will follow in the church
hall immediately after the Service for those who do not wish to attend
the Crematorium Service. Those who do attend the Crematorium are also
invited to a reception in the church hall after the Cremation. Vigil Prayer
for the Dead will take place at 7.00pm on Monday 29th September at the
Sacred Heart Church. Please remember Sean’s family in your prayers.
Choices Weekend
Bishop John Hine has recently said that it is not easy today for young
people to grow in a true understanding of what life is all about. Commercial
and peer pressures are so powerful and so confusing – it is easy
to drift with the tide. Over the years Choices Weekend has proved to be
a powerful experience for young people, helping them to take stock of
who they are and why they really matter. So often they come away from
the weekend with a new vision for their lives and a greater understanding
of family, of love and even of Church. Are you aged 20-35? Then
why not come along to the next Choices Weekend, 7-9 November, which is
held at the Carmelite Priory in Boars Hill overlooking Oxford. For information,
contact Bill and Joy Reilly 0118 981 3784 or visit the website:www.choicesweekend.com

The
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
A voice from the tabernacle! Listen. “for one who truly loves,
nothing is too much. Love does not count the cost; it bargains not; it
does not ask, ‘How much will I get for this?’ Love sacrifices
itself, gives itself wholly for the beloved.” Thus the Saviour loves
you now; He has been loving you all the while. “Behold,” He
says, “I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.”
(Fr. Winfrid Herbst, SDS).
