The Gospel of Luke: Preparing for Year C
The Department for Evangelisation and the Department for Collaborative
Ministry host days each year as preparation for the new lectionary year

priests and deacons, RCIA teams, leaders of children’s liturgy,
catechists, readers, and anyone interested in adult formation to reflect
on the Gospel that they will be using in their different ministries. This
year David Sanders OP will be leading the day on Friday 14th November
at the Cathedral Discovery Centre, St John’s Cathedral, Portsmouth
from 10.30am – 3.30pm. (Cost £10 please bring a bible) David
Sanders is a Dominican and at present is the student master at Blackfriars,

is essential for this day as it can be oversubscribed. To book, or for
more information, please contact the Department for Evangelisation and
Catechesis on 01329 835583 or email: rec@portsmouth-dio.org.uk

THE UNION
Thought for the Week
“Anyone who does not welcome the kingdom of God like a little
child will never enter it”. Amelia Dahl once wrote an article
entitled “Taking a walk with my grandson”, which was
written in dialogue form and part of it went something like this:
Ricky:
Grandma, why do trees take their clothes off at the end of summer?
Grandma: Because they get worn out and must be exchanged for new
ones.
Ricky: Where do their new clothes come from?
Grandma: From underneath the ground. God is preparing a new spring
wardrobe for them.
Ricky: Grandma, did you ever notice that the sky looks like an
upside-down lake?
Grandma: And those little white clouds look like sailboats, don’t
they?
Ricky: I wonder where they’re sailing to.
Grandma: Maybe to a cloud meeting.
Ricky: What would they do there?
Grandma: Probably decide if the earth needs more rain.
Ricky: Cor! God thinks of everything doesn’t He, Grandma?
Ricky’s
grandma is a perfect model of an adult who has not lost her sense of childlike
wonder. To wonder is to see things as children see them. It means to ask
the same questions about them that children ask. To wonder is to look
at things as if we were seeing them for the first time. It means to see
things with the freshness they had when they first tumbled bright and
new and unspoiled from the creative hand of God. Let’s hope we never
lose our own sense of childlike wonder.

Come
Let Us Worship
This Thursday, 9th October, there will be a major celebration evening
called ‘Come Let Us Worship’ in the Fernham Hall at 7.30pm.
The purpose of this event is to enable Christians from all the churches
in Fareham Borough to join together in Worship, and to celebrate our oneness
in Jesus Christ. There will be a good deal of sung worship, but there
will also be drama, dance, prayer and a ‘creative corner’
for those who want to express worship through art. Towards the end there
will be a ‘fellowship supper’ which will be an opportunity
to meet others and share food together, expressing our ‘one family’.
It promises to be a wonderful occasion for all ages and is free, although
there will be a voluntary collection to help cover the cost of putting
on the event. No tickets are required but you are advised to arrive early
to get a good seat!
