Thought for the Week

Promise and change are the themes of our readings this week. God’s promise to Abraham to grant him descendants such as the stars of heaven, moving Abraham from being a nomad to a man who would settle the land assigned for his heritage, and for Peter, John and James journeying up the mountain with Jesus, they would see a glimpse of the promise offered to them in following Jesus, a glimpse of the glorified Lord, ‘the Son of God, the Chosen One.’ The promise Jesus offers us today is spelt out in the Second Reading where St Paul urges the Philippians to follow Christ, live by him, so that they may come to share in the fullness of life in Christ in heaven, where our bodies will be transfigured into copies of His own glorified body.

As we continue our Lenten journey let us pray that through faithfulness to Christ we may be ever changed into His image and so move forward in faith towards the kingdom promised us.
Father Andrew Chandler
