be very welcome.
Portchester
Voluntary Care
This group has co-ordinators who receive requests by telephone for help
with transport. They then find a suitable volunteer who will provide transport
and if necessary, an escort, to Health Centres, Hospitals, Dentists etc.
Donations are appreciated and can be placed in an envelope provided by
the driver who will return it to the treasurer. Volunteer drivers can,
if they wish, claim expenses. If you feel this service might be of help
to you or if you would like to volunteer to be a driver or escort, please
telephone 023 9232 1788.
Parish
Youth Club
The Parish Youth Club now has 25 active members and during the
past twelve months we have been to the Thorpe Park theme park,
to the Mayflower pantomime in Southampton and for ten pin bowling
sessions in Fareham (all at heavily subsidised prices). The
Club is there for all young people aged 11 to 16 in the Parish
and any new members are promised a warm welcome at St Philip
Howard Hall on Sunday evenings between 7.00pm and 9.00pm.
Adult
Helpers
The
Parish Youth Club urgently needs more adult helpers. If any
parishioner is willing to spare a couple of hours on a Sunday
evening just once a month (or even every six weeks) to keep
a benevolent eye on the young people, please contact Father
Chris or John Monfort on 01489 583629.

Catholic
Papers
Denis Hodgetts is pleased to say that he has paid £106.65 into parish
funds, this being the extra money paid by several Universe subscribers,
plus the discount allowed by the publishers over the last 12 months. Thank
you, faithful readers! It would be good if some parishioners who, at present,
obtain their Catholic papers through a newsagent would consider ordering
through the parish instead, or alternatively arranging a quarterly or
annual subscription direct from the publishers. Further details on subscription
services may be found in all three papers. To order through the parish,
please telephone Denis on 01329 288638.
Next
Sunday is World Day of Prayer for Vocations
“Dear young people, I hope that you can know how to listen to the
voice of God calling you to service.
This is
the road that opens up to so many forms of ministry for the benefit of
the community.”
Pope John Paul II

THE UNION
Thought for the Week
On Maundy Thursday, when Peter had denied on three occasions any knowledge
of Jesus, he repented and accepted his human failings. So when Jesus asked
Peter three times, “Do you love me?” Peter answered
“Yes Lord, you know I love you.” When Peter
repented, Jesus healed Peter’s lack of self-confidence that had
taken place.
Can we like Peter,
accept ourselves as we are, with our faults and failings? If so, then
in faith we will not find it too difficult to believe that God can accept
us as we are. Jesus accepts us after we have denied him, after we have
disbelieved, after we have given up, after we have sinned. It takes an
act of faith on our part to believe this. Sometimes faith is the courage
to accept acceptance, the courage to accept God’s acceptance of
ourselves.
Peter recovered his
faith after his despair, unlike Judas who allowed his past to overcome
him. So let us be like Peter, accept ourselves as we are, repent of our
failings and allow the Lord to put us to work for him again. Jesus made
Peter the leader of the Apostles. He has other plans for us if we but
only allow him to work in us.
