Listenings
2004
Your personal experience of family life is important. Bishop Crispian
and the other Bishops have committed themselves to finding ways to support
Family Life in the Church. First they need to know the reality of people’s
lives. Now parishes in the Diocese are organising various ways of seeking
your personal input. Leaflets have been printed with 12 starter questions.
Responses can be short to fit on the sheet or longer on extra sheets and
can be from an individual, a family, a parish group or a specially formed
group. Leaflets and fliers are at the back of the churches and on the
web site here (pdf
file).

THE UNION
Thought for the Week
Last weekend I finished my homily with the following prayer, by an unknown
author, and several parishioners have asked for a copy, so here it is
again:
Lord, help
us realise that everything that happens to us happens for a reason.
Help us realise that every struggle, every setback, every sorrow we experience
can be transformed into a blessing, if we but trust in You.
Help us realise that if we trust in You, all things ~ even tragedies ~
will work out for good.
For ev’ry pain we must bear, for ev’ry burden, ev’ry
care, there’s a reason.
For ev’ry grief that bows the head, for ev’ry teardrop that
is shed, there’s a reason.
For ev’ry hurt, for ev’ry plight, for ev’ry lonely,
pain-racked night, there’s a reason.
But if we trust You, as we should, it will turn out for good. For You
know the reason.

Fareham
Faith Festival
Once upon a time Christianity was new.
It was refreshingly different from the usual pagan practices
of the time. It promised forgiveness of sins and eternal life.
Amazingly it still does.
Even more astonishing is that there are so many people still
out there, waiting to hear our Good News. The Fareham Churches
Together have decided to try to do something about it. We aim
to bring residents and visitors to Fareham Town face-to-face
with Faith on the streets for a week in May/June next year.
It will need all our support – so please decide to be
a part of it. We will launch full details next month. Please
give your names to the Parish Office if you can help.

Hospitals
and the Data Protection Act
The Patients Charter requires Hospital authorities to care for
the religious and spiritual needs of their patients, while the Data Protection
Act forbids those authorities to pass sensitive personal data, like religious
affiliation of patients, to chaplains unless the individual patient has
expressly requested this. Therefore, when parishioners are admitted to
hospital they should make sure that they tell the hospital staff taking
their details that they are Catholics, and express their wish that this
information be passed to the Roman Catholic Chaplain. Those responsible
for children or for those who are unconscious when admitted should do
likewise.

Our Parish has an SVP group. For further details contact Mary
Cadogan on 01329 235987.
