Listenings
2004
Your personal experience of family life is important. Bishop Crispian
and the other Bishops have committed themselves to finding ways to support
Family Life in the Church. First they need to know the reality of people’s
lives. Now parishes in the Diocese are organising various ways of seeking
your personal input. Leaflets have been printed with 12 starter questions.
Responses can be short to fit on the sheet or longer on extra sheets and
can be from an individual, a family, a parish group or a specially formed
group. Leaflets and fliers are at the back of the churches and on the
web site here (pdf
file).

THE UNION
Thought for the Week
Today we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles and Disciples.
It is the birthday of the Church. From being a timid, hesitant group they
became a courageous crowd who went out and proclaimed the Good News and
brought thousands to the Lord.
We also are transformed
by the Holy Spirit through the Sacraments and prayer. The Holy Spirit
is the fuel that drives the spiritual engine within us. Our problem is
that we are hesitant to release the brakes and allow him to work within
us. The Holy Spirit gives us all that we need to be faithful followers
of Jesus in the midst of all the attractions and pull of the outside world.
We do not have to be clergy or religious but be ourselves who are open
to the promptings and direction that the Holy Spirit is giving us, helping
us to bear the light and touch of Christ in our ministry. Happy birthday!

Fareham
Faith Festival
Once upon a time Christianity was new.
It was refreshingly different from the usual pagan practices
of the time. It promised forgiveness of sins and eternal life.
Amazingly it still does.
Even more astonishing is that there are so many people still
out there, waiting to hear our Good News. The Fareham Churches
Together have decided to try to do something about it. We aim
to bring residents and visitors to Fareham Town face-to-face
with Faith on the streets for a week in May/June next year.
It will need all our support – so please decide to be
a part of it. We will launch full details next month. Please
give your names to the Parish Office if you can help.

A message
from Terry and Theresa Phillips
“If anybody is interested in joining the group of Ushers
and Greeters who assist at the 9.00am Mass on Sundays would they please
contact Terry or Theresa Phillips, either at the 9.00am Mass or by telephoning
01489 880619. With the larger numbers now attending this Mass, additional
volunteers would be very welcome especially as we are a little short,
in particular, of Greeters. Making people feel welcome at Mass, distributing
hymn books and finding seats for them, all help in preparation for the
celebration of the Eucharist. We would be very pleased to hear from people
who now attend 9.00am Mass as a result of the recent changes in Mass times.”
Fareham
Sacred Heart Football Club
The football club has sadly closed with the conclusion of the
2003-4 season. Paul Cubitt will write a tribute to the club in the forthcoming
Parish Magazine. It is pleasing to know that the majority of the team
football strips are now in Uganda. The Rev. Jeanette Power, a hospital
chaplain in Portsmouth, very kindly agreed to take the heavy kit bags
with her on a recent trip to Uganda. She presented the football strips
to a delighted primary school and hospice in Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
Loud thanks and applause is sent from these children, with their glowing
appreciation. With thanks especially to Wally Arnold and Paul Cubitt for
their many years of dedication and commitment to the club.
