“Eye
Contact”
A message from Adrian Stannard: “Please would you be kind enough
to accept this letter as a receipt for your charitable gift payment of
£922.00 that you so kindly gave to this charity. We are most grateful
that you should take the trouble to give to us from your Lent Appeal.
We were wonderfully shocked to receive such a large amount. Thank you.
This payment will pay for four brand new Perkins Brailing Machines. Your
gift is going towards the payment for a further ten Perkins Brailing machines
for the next School for the Blind at Asaka in the Andijan Region of the
Ferghana Valley in Uzbekistan, some 50 miles from Kasansay where the first
set of ten machines were placed. The director knows they are coming. It
is very likely that they will be placed into the school in October this
year. We are greatly encouraged by your generosity and kindness.”
Parish
Ecology Group
“Thank you all very much for bringing in the foil for recycling.
Last Wednesday we were delighted to receive £9.20 bringing our total
since the beginning of the year to £44.72. We’re doing well!
But – ‘all that shines is not foil’! We had to extract
quite a lot of plastic foil from tea packets and crisp packets and biscuit
wrappings. Also we don’t want pill cases or calendar packs –
they have too much plastic in them. Please remember the ‘scrunch
test’ – grip the material in your hand and then let go –
if it remains scrunched up it is foil, if it does not and springs apart
it is not foil and should not go into the foil bin.” Esme Percival.

THE UNION
Thought for the Week
St Luke would be voted the best public relations agent for Jesus. In today’s
long Gospel it was not Luke’s idea to break the narrative by starting
and numbering a new chapter. That came much later. Luke’s own picture
of Jesus and humanity is one, balanced and mirroring the original Genesis
plan. In St Luke’s image of our Saviour it is clear that Jesus is
comfortable with women. Luke alone is inspired to join to the twelve Apostles
the back-up of faithful women. Their support and involvement completes
the plan of creation: male and female. Salvation history for us all began
with a question to and a favourable answer from a woman. In the last phase
of the struggle between Satan and Christ on Calvary, Mary’s victorious
Son offered her no awards. Instead, He committed to her the motherhood
of His Church.

the year for the whole Parish to meet together to celebrate Mass. The
First Holy Communion and Confirmation certificates will be presented at
this Mass, which will be the only Mass in the Parish that weekend. The
Parish Open Day will follow and our Parish groups will have the opportunity

not bring the whole family along and enjoy a picnic afterwards –
bring your own food and drink and picnic chairs or rugs for seating.

of the Lord who speaks to us from the throne of mercy: Come to me, all
of you.” (Jesus to St. Faustina).

and learn what it means to be a ‘better dad’. This rough guide
for dads takes place at the Salvation Army, Lake Road, Portsmouth on 28th

Co-Workers
of Mother Teresa – Missionary Sisters of Charity
The Sisters in India are in great need of cotton clothing and light weight
woollens for the ‘poorest of the poor’. If you are sorting
out your summer clothes and find you have a surplus of these items, still
in good condition, would you consider, please, bringing them to the Sacred
Heart Church and placing them in the white box in the porch? Thank you
to all who have already made contributions, in this respect, and also
for the items received for St Dismas.
A message
from Terry and Theresa Phillips
“If anybody is interested in joining the group of Ushers
and Greeters who assist at the 9.00am Mass on Sundays would they please
contact Terry or Theresa Phillips, either at the 9.00am Mass or by telephoning
01489 880619. With the larger numbers now attending this Mass, additional
volunteers would be very welcome especially as we are a little short,
in particular, of Greeters. Making people feel welcome at Mass, distributing
hymn books and finding seats for them, all help in preparation for the
celebration of the Eucharist. We would be very pleased to hear from people
who now attend 9.00am Mass as a result of the recent changes in Mass times.”
Fareham
Sacred Heart Football Club
The football club has sadly closed with the conclusion of the
2003-4 season. Paul Cubitt will write a tribute to the club in the forthcoming
Parish Magazine. It is pleasing to know that the majority of the team
football strips are now in Uganda. The Rev. Jeanette Power, a hospital
chaplain in Portsmouth, very kindly agreed to take the heavy kit bags
with her on a recent trip to Uganda. She presented the football strips
to a delighted primary school and hospice in Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
Loud thanks and applause is sent from these children, with their glowing
appreciation. With thanks especially to Wally Arnold and Paul Cubitt for
their many years of dedication and commitment to the club.
Cheese
and Wine
The Union of Catholic Mothers would like to invite all Parishioners to
a Cheese and Wine Party on Friday 18th June at the Sacred Heart Hall.
