THE UNION Thought for the Week
The three parables of the lost sheep, lost drachma and the prodigal son
are all examples of Jesus teaching of the equal worth of every individual
item or person. The lost sheep is as important as the others, the lost
drachma is as important as the others and the prodigal son is important
and loved no matter what he has done.
On this Sunday the
Churches observe Racial Justice Sunday. It is a reminder to us all of
how important every one is no matter what colour or ethnic background
they belong to. We are asked to stand up for justice and human rights
and by doing so liberate those that are suffering, thus making visible
God’s will for love, truth and equality. Martin Luther King Jr.
said “The worth of an individual does not lie in the measure of
his intellect, his racial origin or his social position. An individual
has value because he has value to God.” So as people of faith the
defeat of racism is the business of us all.
