THE UNION
Thought for the Week
Today’s liturgy presents the questioning faith of Habakkuk and the
Apostles’ desire for greater faith. It also makes it easier for
us to accept the nature of faith as we see it in action in the life of
St Paul.
Much as
a lever which raises more than its own weight, so a little faith is capable
of realising the impossible, the extraordinary. Like the Apostles we stand,
wondering and unconvinced. This gift, this grace comes from Jesus only.
Nobody gains it, buys it, earns it. It can only be asked for, begged of
another, of the Lord to whom it is particularly directed. We should, too,
remember to thank God for His gift. It will make us very humble, less
critical, much more patient, pleasantly kindly and fearlessly alive in
our present milieu.

Growing
Together in Christ

this we need to have four meetings in our parish. The first meeting entitled
‘Called to Holiness’ will take place on Thursday 21st October
at St Jude’s School at 7.30pm (7.00pm Tea and Coffee). Everyone
is encouraged to attend.
Thanks
Our Lady of Walsingham Church – 50th Anniversary
Thanks to all who contributed in any way to the celebrations held in Portchester
last weekend for the 50th Anniversary of Our Lady of Walsingham Church.
Many people have commented on the weekend as a very successful and joyous
occasion.
Growing
Together in Christ
Grateful thanks to all who attended the very important ‘Growing
Together in Christ’ meeting last week. I was very pleased to see
so many people from our Parish willing to take on a leadership role in
promoting the Bishop’s vision of Communion and Mission. Well done.
With this week’s newsletter is a prayer
card which is commended to us all by Bishop Crispian. Whatever our
circumstances “in a very particular way it places before the Lord
all that we are hoping for in this crucial moment in the history of our
diocese.” Let us all undertake to say this prayer on a regular basis,
both privately and in communion, during the forthcoming weeks.
