THE UNION
Thought for the Week
Amidst all the suffering on earth, whether experienced personally or witnessed
all around us, we who believe in Christ look forward to the resurrection
into new life after death. The Church reminds us of this during the month
of November as we remember and pray for all who have gone before us. Through
the Eucharist we have been joined together as one family and with all
those who have died before us.
It is difficult to
visualise the glorious future promised to us by Christ, when we will be
filled with the vision of God’s glory. Even so the martyrs were
prepared to undergo torture and great suffering in readiness for this
eternal glory. Are we ready to embrace whatever suffering or pain that
comes our way in readiness or preparation for being a member of the family
of God in heaven? God’s promises are permanent and his creation
is neither transient nor disposable but a creation for an eternity of
love with Him. This makes Heaven a family reunion with all of God’s
children.

Growing
Together in Christ
Bishop Crispian is calling us to prepare for the future. In
order to do this we need to have four meetings in our parish.
The third meeting entitled ‘Everyone is gifted by
the Holy Spirit’ will take place on Thursday
25th November at St Jude’s School at 7.30pm (7.00pm
Tea and Coffee).
Everyone is encouraged to attend.
Father,
pour out your Spirit upon our diocese
and grant us a new vision of your glory,
a new experience of your power,
a new faithfulness to your Word
and a new consecration to your service,
so that your love may grow among us
and your kingdom come
through Christ our Lord. Amen

“You will be aware of the suffering thousands in the Sudan region
of Darfour. They are typically, displaced persons as a result of civil
war, orphans, unaccompanied children and disabled children. Members of
the Sudanese SVP Conferences are there, working directly with the needy.
The Sudanese Central
Council of the SVP has appealed for funds through the UK Central Council.
All money received by the SVP is applied to relief activities; nothing
is taken as overhead or administration charges.
Through the generosity
of the Parish support to the Fareham SVP we have been able, over the past
two months, to pass on a series of donations to the SVP Darfour relief
workers amounting to £700.00.
If you are
interested in or wish to know more about the SVP or indeed, would like
to become a member of the Fareham SVP Conference, please contact Mary

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
“Eucharist and Mission are inseparable. I invite you to live
World Mission Sunday this year with a true Eucharistic Spirit. The Eucharist
builds the Church and the Church makes the Eucharist. The mission of the
Church is a continuity of the Mission of Christ and draws spiritual energy
from communion with his Body and Blood” (taken from Pope John
Paul II’s message for Mission Sunday).

Churches
Homeless Action
This exists to ensure that homelessness issues are kept on the Churches’
agenda. One way in which you can help is to buy gift vouchers from stores
such as Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Argos (as many as you like
but not more than £5.00 per voucher) and send them to Paul Brier,
Portsmouth Housing Association, FREEPOST PT987, 247 Fratton Road, Portsmouth,
PO1 1BR to arrive before 10th December. You can write a Christmas card
to go with the voucher but do not give your name or address or seal the
envelope. On 17th December there is a service at 12.00 noon at St Mary’s
Church, Fratton at which the vouchers are handed over to various agencies
such as: Fareham Night Shelter, Haslar Visitor Group, Havant Women’s
Aid, Portsmouth Area Refugee Support, Portsmouth Women’s Refuge.
Vouchers do not only help people in need at Christmas time, because any
surplus vouchers are used to provide help for a Fresh Start throughout
the year. Last year a total of over £8,000 was raised and £2,000
of this was given to the Fresh Start programme.
