THE UNION
Thought for the Week
At
his baptism, Jesus was filled by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit filled Jesus
with power to be a light to the nations enabling God’s salvation
to reach the ends of the earth. We are also given this power at our baptism
and are called forth to take the message of God to all corners of the
world. Some of us may be called to do great feats in disastrous areas
but the majority of us are called to operate in the vicinity of our daily
life. By pursuing peace and forgiveness, by offering a hand of friendship
we could influence those around us and reveal to them the love of God.
We gave
generously to the victims of the Tsunami disaster and that is creditable.
But within our own country, our town, our parish there are many who are
also devastated by disasters that may have befallen them. Do we, can we
ignore them? We may be the only source of light that leads them from darkness
to brightness. As the Psalmist says ‘God does not ask for sacrifice
and offerings but an open ear. God does not ask for holocaust and victim
but instead for your availability’. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill
us with the gift of discernment to direct us to those in need and the
wisdom to know what to do and say.
