Sacred Heart RC Church Stained Glass Window Ordination Anniversary
Next Sunday, 13th February, there will be a Presentation to Father Chris on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of his ordination to the Priesthood. The Presentation will take place in the Sacred Heart Hall following the 9.00am Mass.

Catholic Children’s Society
The retiring collection this weekend is for the Catholic Children’s Society. If you took an envelope last weekend for this collection please place this in the collection after Mass. The Catholic Children’s Society’s work is one of the major ways in which the local church extends care to unhappy, uncared for and insecure children in our Society. Many thousands of children have exchanged sad and insecure lives for happy and fulfilling ones by being adopted or fostered through the Society.

Lenten Appeal
This year’s Lenten Appeal is to help rebuild schools destroyed by the Tsunami in Sri Lanka. Education is vital for all children and as a caring community we must ensure these children are given all the help they need. There will be a special Collection after all Sunday Masses in Lent so please be as generous as you always are.

Stations of the Cross
During his sabbatical, Bishop Crispian wrote some meditations based on the Stations of the Cross that are in the Cathedral. This Lent, the Cathedral, in conjunction with Redemptorist Publications, are producing these meditations. They can be obtained either from the Cathedral Discovery Centre or from the Redemptorists in Alton.

Lent Breakfasts
Every Thursday morning, during LENT, breakfast will be served in the Sacred Heart Hall following the 7.00am Mass. An ideal way to start the morning, so do something different during LENT and join us at the Sacred Heart Church. Everyone most welcome. All proceeds to the Lenten Appeal.

Lent Lunches
The Portchester Churches will be holding Shoppers’ Services and Lent Lunches every Wednesday in Lent, beginning on Ash Wednesday, 9th February. The Services begin at 12.00 noon and take place at Portchester Methodist Church in Castle Street. Do make a note to support these Lunches as all proceeds will be shared between CAFOD and Christian Aid.

“Landmarks” – an Ignatian Journey – by Margaret Silf, Foreword by Gerard Hughes - £9.95 published by Darton, Longman & Todd – ISBN 0-232-52254-5. “Landmarks” has been inspired by the author’s practical explorations and insights of St Ignatius Loyola and opens up questions which concern us all. Confraternity of the Rosary
There are details on the poster in the church porch concerning a pilgrimage to Fatima from 11th to 15th July 2005. The Rosary Pilgrimage Apostolate Swindon are asking for a deposit of £85.00 by the first or second week in February to book a place on the aircraft. Forty places have been provisionally booked and over half of these have already been taken. The Confraternity of the Rosary feel sure that they will be able to book extra places if necessary, provided they are received in time.

THE UNION
Thought for the Week

As unpretentious and open as a village and its life on a Galilean hillside; as a flare that illumines and calms all in an area; as a tasty spread on a dry scone; so are we, living in the Kingdom, to re-direct and consecrate humankind.

We ourselves accept the sovereignty of Jesus over our conscience and the Cross and the Altar will supply us. We do not have to go out of our way to do it. The authenticity of our lives is our best witness.

Child Protection

All voluntary helpers who work with young people, children and vulnerable adults must complete a CRB form and return it with the necessary documentation to a Child Protection Liaison Officer.

Many volunteers have already received these forms but have not yet returned them for initial checking and then forwarding then to the Diocesan Authorities. There will be two evening opportunities for completed forms to be checked on Monday 21st February and Monday 28th February from 7.00pm to 9.00pm both days, at St Jude’s School, or completed forms and documentation can be left at the school to be returned at a mutually convenient time. Volunteers who have not yet completed a form can collect a form on either of those two evening or from the office at St Jude’s School during school hours.

All volunteers working with young people, children or vulnerable adults must have a CRB clearance by December 2005 or they will not be able to continue with this important ministry.
