THE UNION
Thought for the Week
One theme runs through all three of these weekend readings. It is a very
important and comforting theme. You could say that it is the heart of
the Good News. It is that we are loved in our sins and un-loveliness.
We see this in the
First Reading: in spite of the ingratitude and grumblings of the people,
God does not write off His people, but shows His love for them by providing
water in the desert. The message is explicitly stated in the Second Reading:
Paul says, “What proves that God loves us is that Christ died for
us while we were still sinners.” And we see the message in action
in one of the most marvellous stories of the woman at the well. That story
will be treated more fully on Friday 4th March at 7.45pm in the Sacred
Heart Church (after the Stations of the Cross).
Like the deer that
yearns for running streams so our souls long for You, O Lord. Near restful
waters You lead us to revive our drooping spirits. Only Christ alone can
cause a spring to well up inside us and sustain us on our journey of faith.
Father
Charlie
