Missionaries
of Charity – Co-workers of Mother Teresa
The Co-workers have been informed that the Indian Government will no longer
allow any second hand clothing, sheeting, bandages or towels to be imported
from any part of the world. The White Box has therefore been removed from
the porch of the Sacred Heart Church, as donations of the above can no
longer be accepted. Thank you to all who have been so generous in the
past. Donations of money, however, will still be forwarded to the Missionary
Sisters in London, who provide soup for the homeless on the streets.

THE UNION
Thought for the Week
It
is true that lepers are healed, people are set free and it has been said
and written that our wonderful Church is the largest provider of health
care in the world. So some of the job description that Jesus gave His
Apostles at their commissioning has been and is being fulfilled.
Yes, we
are sheepish, as the psalmist says, by our failures and need constant
pastoral reviewing in these troubled, trackless days. But we are looking
again at the labour force and what do we see? From porch to sanctuary,
from pew to factory, from office to college and university the harvest
is here. Here too are the labourers and God’s kingdom is around
us.
For God’s
election of Israel from among the nations is not exclusive but inclusive;
He chose Israel FOR the other nations. Israel’s calling to
be a priestly people is ours too. Ours to mediate holiness and be true
to the Agreement (Covenant). In this way we are a kingdom of priests and
a consecrated nation.
Father
Charlie
Joyce
Gowans RIP
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Joyce Gowans, whose funeral
took place recently. Please also pray for all Joyce’s family and
friends.

Vacancy
for a Foundation Governor at St. Jude’s Catholic Primary School
Bishop Crispian, who has absolute discretion in the appointment of Foundation
Governors, is seeking applications from committed Baptized Catholics who
wish to be considered. The governors of a Catholic School work as a team,
in close co-operation with the headteacher and all staff. In addition
to the legal responsibilities of the Governing Body, the Foundation Governors
have a responsibility for preserving the religious character of the school,
sustaining and developing the school as a Catholic educating community
in accordance with Canon Law and the teaching of the Catholic Church and
giving witness, as individuals, and as a team, to the Gospel message and
the Church’s teaching. Appropriate training is available during
the period of service. Lack of experience in education in a Catholic school
should not deter anyone from applying if there is a genuine desire to
serve the mission of the Church. Application packs are available from
the Parish Priest, School Office or the Department for Schools Governance
at Park Place Pastoral Centre. Closing date for receipt of applications
is 25th June 2005.
