Denis Payne will be holding a stall to back the aim to Make Poverty History
at the Gosport Waterfront Festival from Friday 1st July (6.00pm) until
Sunday 3rd July (10.00pm) If you could spare any time over that weekend

Thanks…..
From Deacon Langford and Margaret Vincent
“It was brilliant” – that is how we would describe our
Ruby Wedding Anniversary Celebration Mass and party held later in the
hall. We were deeply moved to see so many people from the Parish turn
up to celebrate with us. A great ‘thank you’ to all and for
your cards/wishes/trees. A special ‘thank you’ to Frs. Chris
and Charles for the lovely Mass and blessings and to Pauline Jackson and
her crew for making the celebration so special and such a success.”
From
Fr. John Doran
“I write to thank you and the Parish for providing for me such
a friendly and joyful celebration of the 40th Anniversary of my Ordination
to the Priesthood. I really enjoyed the occasion and I am grateful to
all who helped at the Mass and to all who helped with the catering for
the meal afterwards. My thanks also for the gift I was given. It all adds
another happy memory to my memories of Portchester.”
From
Cogy
“A BIG BIG thank you to all the teenagers who helped at the
Faith Festival, Gardening, Litter clearing, painting subway and Youth
Café, showing God’s love in action. Also thanks to the adults
who helped and the loan of garden tools. Thank you from Cogy.”

THE UNION
Thought for the Week
Our
modern culture is not overly laden with gospel values. It is a culture
of individualism as opposed to community, of self-interest as opposed
to common good, of material possession as opposed to spiritual personal
wealth. Is it possible to be Christian without being counter cultural?
Is it possible to be Christian and be comfortable in modern society? You
most probably will say no or with great difficulty.
Today’s
gospel tells us that we need to declare our Christian values in the presence
of others. No doubt, like Jeremiah, we will be persecuted but like the
Psalmist we can cry out ‘In your great love, answer me, O God’.
We know that He will always give us the courage and strength to stand
up for Christian values for He never lets us down. So why do we hesitate?

of the Blessed Sacrament
“The Church lives by the Eucharist – thus wrote Servant of
God, John Paul II, in his last encyclical, ‘Ecclesia de Eucharistia’……
In the Eucharist…Christ
is really present among us. He is not a static presence. It is a dynamic
presence which takes hold of us to make us His, to assimilate us to Himself….Our
spiritual life essentially depends on the Eucharist.” (Pope Benedict
XVI, 4 June 2005)

Vacancy
for a Foundation Governor at St. Jude’s Catholic Primary School
Bishop Crispian, who has absolute discretion in the appointment of Foundation
Governors, is seeking applications from committed Baptized Catholics who
wish to be considered. The governors of a Catholic School work as a team,
in close co-operation with the headteacher and all staff. In addition
to the legal responsibilities of the Governing Body, the Foundation Governors
have a responsibility for preserving the religious character of the school,
sustaining and developing the school as a Catholic educating community
in accordance with Canon Law and the teaching of the Catholic Church and
giving witness, as individuals, and as a team, to the Gospel message and
the Church’s teaching. Appropriate training is available during
the period of service. Lack of experience in education in a Catholic school
should not deter anyone from applying if there is a genuine desire to
serve the mission of the Church. Application packs are available from
the Parish Priest, School Office or the Department for Schools Governance
at Park Place Pastoral Centre. Closing date for receipt of applications
is 25th June 2005.
Missionaries
of Charity – Co-workers of Mother Teresa
The Co-workers have been informed that the Indian Government will no longer
allow any second hand clothing, sheeting, bandages or towels to be imported
from any part of the world. The White Box has therefore been removed from
the porch of the Sacred Heart Church, as donations of the above can no
longer be accepted. Thank you to all who have been so generous in the
past. Donations of money, however, will still be forwarded to the Missionary
Sisters in London, who provide soup for the homeless on the streets.
