THE UNION
Thought for the Week
“Shoulder my yoke and learn from me,” said Jesus,
“for I am gentle and humble in heart.” Seven hundred years
before Jesus’ birth, a Greek slave named Aesop compiled a collection
of stories which we know as Aesop’s Fables. One of the fables deals
with a dispute between the sun and the wind. The dispute was over which
of the two were stronger. One day an opportunity arose to settle the dispute.
A person dressed in a coat was walking down a deserted country road. The
sun said to the wind, “Whoever makes that person remove the coat
faster will be the winner.” The wind not only agreed but decided
to go first. He blew and blew, but the more he blew, the tighter the person
held on to the coat. Finally, exhausted, the wind gave up. Then the sun
took over. It merely shone in all its glory. Within minutes the person
took off the coat. Aesop said the moral of the story was this: You can
achieve more by gentleness than by violence.

Please
Consider Befriending
Is an hour a fortnight too much? That’s all it takes to bring companionship
to a lonely, housebound and infirm person in Fareham Town. We are anxious
to befriend a lady musician in need of some company. There are several
older persons in the same boat. When you visit is up to you. Please help
Fareham Good Neighbours which is a local Churches initiative. Ring Roger
Chadwick 01489 584250. Thank you.
Very
Many Thanks…
To all, too many to list, who followed Father Chris’ lead and kindly
gave some time to supporting the Parish during the Fareham Faith Festival.
Some were offering church tours, others were providing refreshments, distributing
literature or generally helping. Your willingness to help was deeply appreciated.
It will take a few more weeks to determine what the Churches jointly achieved
so watch this space for a further report. Thanks again. (The Organising
Team)
