THE UNION
Thought for the Week
The Most Holy Trinity is Love and that Love has an overall plan. It brings
about creation and humanity. That plan is further to make mankind the
children of God. This wonderful truth constitutes the core of Christ’s
preaching and miracles. He speaks about the forgiving father who loves
his two selfish sons; the vine and the branches, the shepherd and his
flock, the mother-hen and her chicks among other examples in His words
and behaviour. St. Paul uses the image of the head and the members to
signal the same close identity. St John, in the opening chapter of his
Gospel (vv.9-14 &v.16) puts it most clearly of all. Scarcely any of
the Scriptures that form the New Testament fail to echo this one single
theme. The Old Testament was without the revelation of the Incarnation,
the Atonement or the Resurrection. Nevertheless, in its chronicling of
the calling of a people to be aware of a Caring Power ruling them, it
yet finds its prophetic tender moments. In today’s Gospel Jesus
asks us – with a warning love – to hear the parable of the
Four Soils. We are born into human life without our consent; to be born
into the Divine Life of Love we have to say “O yes please”
and have meant it as best we can throughout our lives.

APF –
a message from Fr. Frank Thompson
“This is the time of year when I always invite you to our Annual
Mission Mass and film. Sadly it will not be possible this year as I have
just had major surgery to replace my arthritic hip and I feel it would
be unwise to resume such journeys at this stage. My recovery progress
is good and, by next year, I hope to be fitter than I have been for some
time. Please pass on my greetings to all Promoters and members and thank
them for all they do. I would particularly like to share with you all
my gratitude to God for 40 years of priesthood this year. You have played
no small part in this as our Mill Hill Society sustains its missionaries
through your support and the Red Mission Boxes. May God bless you always
in your missionary work.
