Those who want to go on the subsidised outing must let John know by 9th April (01489 583629). By the way, if you are aged 11-15 it’s easy to join the club…..just turn up at St Philip Howard Hall any Sunday at 7.00pm.

THE UNION

Thought for the Week
The incredible contrast in moods between the two gospels proclaimed in this Sunday’s liturgy capture well the broad dynamic of the paschal mystery. The triumph with which we begin this Sunday is the triumph we celebrate next Sunday: the glory of the Lord shining forth for all to see and share. Sandwiched in between is the scandal and ignominy of the cross. What seemed to end in utter failure rises in complete glory.

We all want the parade but we don’t want the rain. We want a glorious share in Christ’s triumphant victory over sin and death but we don’t want the cross. We want resurrection but not the dying. It can’t be. Christ showed us by his own way of living and by his ministry that the only way to share in his glory is to die to self by becoming servants and disciples following him to the cross……..The paschal mystery unfolds in the little things in life that we turn into big ways to say yes to the Christ in others. This is how we get to know Jesus – by living as he did, by embracing the dying so we rise with him to new life.

From Living Liturgy

Sr Julia Flannery RIP
Please pray for Sr Julia, who has recently died. Sr Julia worked tirelessly in this Parish despite suffering ill health and was always cheerful, with a great sense of humour and fun. Sr Julia’s funeral takes place on Wednesday 12th April at 11.00am at the LSU Convent in Bexley Heath, Kent. May she rest in peace.

The Easter Vigil
The Easter Vigil will take place at

St Philip Howard Church on
Saturday 15th April at 8.30pm

It is the high point of the Church’s Year because it isthe central proclamation and celebration of Jesus’ resurrection, with baptism at its heart.

Please come along and support Andrew Brown, Dawn Donnelly, Dawn Gilmore, Joan Horner, Desmond Quick, Grace Salter and Hilary Weller who are to be received into the full communion of the Catholic Church.

Part of the celebration of Baptism is the renewal of our own Baptism commitment.

Party after the Easter Vigil
Following the Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday 15th April there will be a party to welcome Andrew Brown, Dawn Donnelly, Dawn Gilmore, Joan Horner, Desmond Quick, Grace Salter and Hilary Weller into the Church. As usual, you are invited to donate items of food for the finger buffet. In the entrance hall of each church is a list of food. Please sign your name against your contribution. Please bring your donations on that Saturday to St Philip Howard Hall between 2.00pm and 3.00pm or to Our Lady of Walsingham between 10.00am and 11.00am.

Keeping in Touch
Keeping in Touch – a parish ministry reaching out to church-going and non church-going Catholics. The Diocesan Team will hold two workshops on Saturday 29th April at Bishop Challoner School, St Michael’s Road, Basingstoke and Saturday 20th May at St Edmund Campion Church Hall, Altwood Road, Maidenhead. The days will start at 10.30am and finish at 4.00pm. You would need to bring a packed lunch and there is no charge for the days, but you would need to book a place. It is hoped that those who attend would go back to their parishes to form a Parish team. To book your place please ring the Department for Pastoral Formation on 01329 835583.

Parish Lenten Appeal
This year’s Lenten Appeal is in support of Adopt Sri Lanka. With so many families still living in temporary shelter fourteen months after the tsunami, it is hoped through our Appeal, to fund the building of a simple house for a most needy family in southern Sri Lanka. During this season of Lent, let us look beyond ourselves and look forward to helping the poor. Please help in any way you can to support this Appeal. Buckets will be at the back of each church after the weekend Masses during Lent.

Readers and Lay Ministers of Communion
Current Rotas for these Ministries for Fareham and Portchester are available at the back of the church.
