Concert by Paprsky – date for your diary
You may recall that this group of some 30 young singers and musicians from the Czech Republic visited our parish last year. This July they are making a welcome return to the UK and will be singing and playing at St Mary’s Church in Portchester Castle on Friday 21st July at 8.00pm. They are mostly Catholics and through their music provide a remarkable witness to their Christian faith. The name ‘Paprsky’ means ‘sunbeam’ and when you hear them you will see what an appropriate name this is: for they bring brightness, light and brilliance to their music. They have an imaginative line-up: the backbone is a rhythm section of keyboard, bass, drums with both rock guitar and acoustic guitar. The band is augmented by a string quartet and woodwind solos. The choir is made up of male and female voices. Come and hear them – there is no admission charge but any donations would be appreciated. So, come along to a wonderful evening of great music.

House Group
The next meeting of the House Group will be on Wednesday 31st May 2006. For more information ring 01329 847533. All are welcome.

THE UNION

Thought for the Week

During this last week of Easter we sing our Alleluia with much greater insight: our joy is complete because we do not belong to this world, either. We have been consecrated in truth. We belong to Christ. Let us keep our sights on the risen Christ that we might be faithful disciples and respond with courage to Jesus’ mission and prayer that we complete it in joy…...

Just as the early community took charge after Jesus’ ascension, so do we take charge in our own time. Jesus didn’t promise us an easy time; he did pray to “keep us from the evil one.” We wish that committing ourselves to Christ would eliminate tension in our lives. It doesn’t! If anything it increases it….

The paschal mystery includes our own struggle with faithfulness to God’s will for salvation; at the same time it includes our own resurrection to new life. This Easter gospel presents a daunting challenge: take up the mission of Jesus. The encouragement that we can be successful is that Christ consecrates us and remains with us…...
