Concert by Paprsky – date for your diary
You may recall that this group of some 30 young singers and musicians from the Czech Republic visited our parish last year. This July they are making a welcome return to the UK and will be singing and playing at St Mary’s Church in Portchester Castle on Friday 21st July at 8.00pm. They are mostly Catholics and through their music provide a remarkable witness to their Christian faith. The name ‘Paprsky’ means ‘sunbeam’ and when you hear them you will see what an appropriate name this is: for they bring brightness, light and brilliance to their music. They have an imaginative line-up: the backbone is a rhythm section of keyboard, bass, drums with both rock guitar and acoustic guitar. The band is augmented by a string quartet and woodwind solos. The choir is made up of male and female voices. Come and hear them – there is no admission charge but any donations would be appreciated. So, come along to a wonderful evening of great music.

Union of Catholic Mothers
The Union of Catholic Mothers would like to invite the parish to celebrate their 60th anniversary on the Feast of the Sacred Heart, Friday 23rd June 2006 at Sacred Heart Church.

Mass will be held at 7.00pm followed by a reception in the hall.

All are very welcome on this very special occasion.

Thought for the Week

The gospel moves us from speculation about the Trinity as a dogma to be believed to an experience of the Trinity. The dignity of our baptism is that we share in God’s life and mighty deeds. In the readings for this solemnity we find a summary of God’s mighty deeds: creating, speaking to us, calling a nation, giving commandments, leading us by the Spirit, adopting us as “heirs with Christ.” These are the same deeds that form the pattern of our own daily living. By bringing God’s presence to all those we meet, we are recreating, announcing God’s mighty deeds, calling forth goodness from others, giving direction to our lives, leading others to God, and becoming one with others in the family of God’s beloved children.

Adoration of the Blessed SacramentThe Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
"Our best life, all our spiritual life, is nothing but a succession of Visitations, Visitations from Mary bringing Jesus with her. But nowhere is the similitude so faithful as it is in the Blessed Sacrament. How often when we come near to the tabernacle, a secret fire comes forth and our hearts burn within us without apparent cause. Cares fall off, tears are dried, doubts melt away, temptations are paralyzed, anxieties are allayed, our soul is bathed in quiet sudden jubilee. Joy, exultation, praise, delight, and the sense of forgiveness, the spirit of worship, these are exactly the fruits produced within us, as they were produced in [John] the Baptist’s soul.” (Fr. Faber)
