Breviary – The Official Prayer of the Church
The Official Prayer of the Church is called the Liturgy of the Hours. It is also known as the Divine Office or the Breviary. Once the preserve of Priests and Religious, the reforms of the Second Vatican Council encouraged it to be the prayer of the whole Church, not just its “professionals”. Many in our Parish do pray a part of the Office every day, some say the whole Office. If you would like to use this very rich form of prayer but are unfamiliar with how it works, why not come to a short (45 minutes) introductory evening led by Father Joe, on praying the Liturgy of the Hours on 9th May in Sacred Heart Church beginning at 7.30pm.
Part-time Parish Office Vacancy
Closing date for Applications is Tuesday 24th April 2007.
Lectio Divina Retreat
Come to Douai Abbey from Friday 4th May to Monday 7th May (includes the Bank Holiday) and experience a way of praying with Scripture, an ancient art at one time practised by all Christians. It is a slow contemplative prayer which enables one to listen to God’s word and to make a prayerful response. There will be time for sharing, silence, solitude and reflection. The fee for the waged is £132.00 (premium for a single occupancy room £30.00) To book send a £30.00 deposit to the Pastoral Programme Director, Douai Abbey, Upper Woolhampton, Berks, RG7 5TQ.

THE UNION
Thought
for the Week
The risen Jesus revealed himself to his disciples – again, and again. As in other appearances, Jesus is attentive to their needs, bringing their futile fishing expedition to a wildly successful conclusion and providing breakfast for the weary fishermen. These are tangible manifestations of his love and lordship. The Jesus we follow is both Lover of humanity and Lord of humanity.
While it is always nice to hear words of love, far more powerful are deeds which demonstrate tangibly another’s love for us. Jesus most profoundly demonstrates his love for us in his death and resurrection. Then, to make that mystery concrete for us, he demonstrates his love in the simple deed of cooking breakfast for the disciples. We demonstrate our love for him and each other by faithfully loving him, following him, and feeding and tending his lambs and sheep. Love is not simply good feelings but the tangible caring for others.
This means that we begin to see the risen Jesus in the everydayness of our lives. This means that we allow ourselves to be fully nourished by Jesus (on his very Body and Blood; through his word) and gradually be transformed more and more into his risen presence for others. Thus is Easter every day!
From Living Liturgy
Thank You
