Our Bishops ask us to celebrate a Day for Life 2007
‘Blessed is the fruit of your womb’ is the theme for this year’s Day for Life – dedicated to raising awareness about the meaning and value of human life at every stage and in every condition. Day for Life 2007 will mark the 40th anniversary of the Abortion Act in England and Wales, the 10th anniversary of Cardinal Winning’s Pro-Life Initiative in Scotland and the 30th anniversary of Cura in Ireland and the 30th anniversary of Life Care and Housing in England and Wales. There will be a retiring collection in parishes to support Day for Life. The proceeds will go principally to the Life Organisation and the Linacre Centre for Healthcare Ethics.

We thank you Lord for the gift of Life.
Every human life is your gift to the world.
Each person is unique, with a task
You have entrusted to them alone.
Help us always to promote the basic rights of all and to recognise that we are all parts of One Body,
dependent upon one another,
and called to share a common life.

THE UNION

Thought for the Week
Jesus’ invitation to “follow me” is not addressed only to those with a vocation to the priesthood and religious life. It is addressed to everyone. Our baptism begins our paschal journey with Jesus and initiates our response to follow Jesus “to Jerusalem.” We spend our whole lives working out what began at baptism: following Jesus through death into life.

Jesus invites us to follow him in the ordinary circumstances of our lives. This is where the going gets tough: not in the extraordinary, but in the ordinary things do we witness to our faithful following. Sometimes when we read the Scriptures we might be discouraged by the leadership of the prophets or early disciples. We always need extraordinary leaders to help us know where we are going in following Jesus. But the Church is mostly made up of ordinary people whose very faithfulness to the gospel is an extraordinary way to follow Jesus.
