THE UNION
Thought
for the Week
This is what the First Letter of John reminds us: “for whoever does not love a brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen” (1 John 4:20b). We all know what we should do! The issue is, doing it!
The bottom line: we know our responsibility before the law, so do it!
The “dying” part of Gospel living can get awfully burdensome if we always think of it in negative terms. Our reflection on this gospel invites us to place our self-sacrificing to meet the needs of others in the larger context of worshiping God. The beginning of worship is our care for others. This is more than just preaching a “social gospel.” It is saying that there is an indissoluble link between caring for others and worship, between loving others and loving God. Thus doing for others is more than a nice act; it is a way we make God’s kingdom come.
From Living Liturgy
Your prayers are requested for the following who have recently died:
Alice Veronica Vincent, Jozef Reda, Patricia Stares, Eamonn Lynch and William Dewhurst. May they rest in peace.
Snowdon Challenge
Ruth Moorhen will be at all Masses on 21/22 July to collect sponsorship money. Come prepared!!
Hospitals and the Data Protection Act
The Patients Charter requires Hospital authorities to care for the religious and spiritual needs of their patients, while the Data Protection Act forbids those authorities to pass sensitive personal data, like religious affiliation of patients, to chaplains unless the individual patient has expressly requested this. Therefore, when parishioners are admitted to hospital they should make sure that they tell the hospital staff taking their details that they are Catholics, and express their wish that this information be passed to the Roman Catholic Chaplain. Those responsible for children or for those who are unconscious when admitted should do likewise.
Pilgrimage to Medjurgorje
Two parishioners, Ann Broughton and Bernie Farrell (two mums) are going on a pilgrimage to Medjugorje in September. If anyone would like to join them on this trip or would like prayer intentions passed on to Our Lady, telephone Bernie on 01329 845578.
