THE UNION
Thought
for the Week
Being a faithful disciple does not mean always doing the logical thing nor the most practical thing. Like God in the first reading – who relented punishing Israel for unfaithfulness because God brought them out of the land of Egypt – we, too, must put aside our short-sightedness and be merciful and forgiving. If we find this difficult, we only need to remember God’s utter fidelity and compassion towards us. Forgiving an unintended hurt is sometimes difficult; forgiving an intended hurt is still more difficult. Yet God’s response to sin, which is intentional, is always forgiveness.

Words of Wisdom
Accumulated knowledge does not make
a wise man.
Knowledgeable people are found everywhere,
but we are cruelly short of wise people.
