Family Mass Children’s Choir
It has been suggested that we form a children’s choir to sing at the Family Mass at St Philip Howard Church, once each month. The minimum number of children necessary would be 10, to come from Years 1 to 6. Rehearsals would take place on Mondays between 3.30 and 4.00pm at St Philip Howard Church – drinks and snacks would be provided. There would also need to be a short practice on the Saturday immediately preceding the Family Mass. The aim is to commence rehearsals on 1st October and it is essential that there is parental commitment both to the rehearsals and the Sunday attendance. This is a parish-wide activity and children in Years 1 to 6 from any schools, not just St Jude’s, would be welcome. Anyone interested in taking part is asked to ring John Bolwell on 01329 843833 or Joan at the Parish Office 01329 318869.
Family Mass Sunday 7th October
The next Family Mass is a special Mass for St Jude’s School where staff, governors, PFA committee, pupils and parents will be re-dedicated to the service of Our Lord. A special invitation is given to all new families at St Jude’s – Reception class and throughout the school. Mrs Brady (retired Y2 teacher and KS1 leader) and Mrs Falstein (ex Chair of Governors) will also be coming to this Mass. There will be a small celebration in the church hall afterwards, where Fair Trade goods will be on sale. Please let the school office know if you are able to join the Family Mass team of helpers.

THE UNION
Thought
for the Week
The parable of the rich man and Lazarus is blunt: how the rich man spends the afterlife was determined in this life by his lack of concern for the poor man “lying at his door.”
Now is the time to bridge whatever chasms exist between ourselves and those in need. After death the divide is impassable, and our eternity is set. So, now, is our time: Who is lying at our door? We tend to talk about the poor globally and in abstract terms. Here the poor is presented as an individual with a name lying at a doorstep.
From Living Liturgy
Welcoming Day
This weekend, I would like to encourage as many people as possible to stay on for 5 or 10 minutes after Mass for a cup of coffee/tea and a chat with fellow parishioners. We come together regularly to celebrate Mass but very often, do not have the opportunity to get to know each other. Please do stay on if you possibly can and “put a name to the face.”

Words of Wisdom
By suffering for us
Christ not only provided us
with an example for our imitation.
He blazed a trail and if we follow it,
life and death are made holy and take on
a new meaning.

Stewardship
Stewardship is essentially the way of discipleship and the engagement of the whole person and the whole community in the faithful following of Christ as disciples. It is a way of life and as such, finds its beginnings and all its growth in the Scriptures, in the call of the Lord and in our prayerful response to that call. This is the spirituality of Stewardship. With this in mind, Bishop Crispian invites us to join him in a “Stewardship Recollection Day” which is taking place at St Swithun Wells School in Chandlers Ford on Saturday 13th October. The day begins at 11.00am (tea/coffee from 10.30am) and is really a day of prayer to encourage all of us to put our trust and our time, our talents and our treasure into the hands of the Lord as we either set out or consolidate our discipleship of the Christian steward. A light sandwich lunch will be provided and the day will finish at 3.30pm.
If you plan to attend, please ring or email Joan in the Parish Office as soon as possible, to enable catering arrangements to be made.

Angels – Glorious Voices of African Children

They will be giving a concert at The Ashcroft Arts Centre, Osborn Road, Fareham on Wednesday 10th October at 7.30pm – tickets £8.00, £7.00 concessions.
