Family Mass Children’s Choir
It has been suggested that we form a children’s choir to sing at the Family Mass at St Philip Howard Church, once each month. The minimum number of children necessary would be 10, to come from Years 1 to 6. Rehearsals would take place on Mondays between 3.30 and 4.00pm at St Philip Howard Church – drinks and snacks would be provided. There would also need to be a short practice on the Saturday immediately preceding the Family Mass. The aim is to commence rehearsals on 1st October and it is essential that there is parental commitment both to the rehearsals and the Sunday attendance. This is a parish-wide activity and children in Years 1 to 6 from any schools, not just St Jude’s, would be welcome. Anyone interested in taking part is asked to ring John Bolwell on 01329 843833 or Joan at the Parish Office 01329 318869.

We Love the British
Being British is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer, then travelling home, grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American TV shows on a Japanese TV. And the most British thing of all? Suspicion of all things foreign!
Only in Britain can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.
Only in Britain do supermarkets make sick people walk all the way to the back of the shop to get their prescriptions, while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.
Only in Britain do people order double cheeseburger, large fries and a Diet Coke.
Only in Britain do we leave cars worth thousands of pounds on the drive, and lock our junk and cheap lawnmower in the garage.
Only in Britain do we use answering machines to screen calls, and then have call waiting so we won’t miss a call from someone we didn’t want to talk to in the first place.
Only in Britain are there disabled parking places in front of a skating rink.

THE UNION
Thought
for the Week
In following Jesus, doing dramatic things is not the issue. After all, the Master does not order his servant to move a mulberry tree by faith, but to meet ordinary expectations – serve at table, wait on him, do whatever is commanded. The issue is to be faithful to the master and his commands. It is by such fidelity that faith increases.
We tend to think of everyday responsibilities as mundane, and they are! But this Gospel reveals the hidden dimension of such ordinary actions – they reveal and increase our faith.
From Living Liturgy
Rosary by any other Name

October is the month of the Rosary. Traditionally there are 15 mysteries (plus the Mysteries of Light) that are meditated upon but any events of the life of Jesus and Mary and the life of the Church could form the basis of this prayer. Joyful
The raising of Lazarus
The call of the Apostles
Sorrowful
The refusal at the inn
The flight into Egypt
Glorious
The appearances after the Resurrection
