Bamenda Sunday
This weekend there will be a Retiring Collection for Bamenda. Now that we do not have any priests in Bamenda, we are happy to welcome in our Diocese a whole succession of Cameroonian priests who serve the Diocese while completing their education. In return through our collection and other projects, we are able to contribute an annual budget of around £50,000 to health, educational and pastoral projects in Cameroon.

Confirmation
Bishop Crispian will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation for our parish on Wednesday 18th June 2008 at 7.00pm in St John’s Cathedral, Portsmouth. Preparations for this Sacrament will begin with an introductory meeting for parents on Wednesday 28th November 2007 at 7.00pm in St Jude’s School. If you wish to prepare for this Sacrament, please fill in the form below and bring with you on 28th November. Candidates must be at least in their third year of secondary education (Year 9). Other young people – or not so young – who, for one reason or another, might have ‘missed out’ are also invited to consider preparing for this important Sacrament.

THE UNION

Thought for the Week
The story of Zacchaeus reminds us that we sinners must come seeking Jesus if we are to have a saving encounter with divine mercy. Sometimes it may seem to many of us that our seeking Jesus is far more difficult than climbing a tree to see and encounter him! Perhaps we are having difficulty with prayer and God seems to have abandoned us. Perhaps so much is going wrong in our lives that we are disposed to be bitter or resentful or vindictive. Sometimes just a refocus of our attention away from the difficulty toward Jesus who loves us is enough to remain faithful and encounter Jesus in a new and life-giving way.

Zacchaeus, impelled by his desire to see Jesus, makes great effort to seek him out. Jesus responds to Zacchaeus’ earnest enthusiasm by doing for him the very thing Jesus came to do: “to seek out and to save what was lost.” The dramatic encounter brings to light something about both persons which escapes the grumbling crowd: Zacchaeus is capable of changing and Jesus is more than an object of curiosity – he is the Saviour of sinners.

The best churches are not full of saints.
They’re full of sinners who want to be better.

Adoration of the Blessed SacramentAdoration of the Blessed Sacrament
Eucharistic Adoration is a wonderful devotion that adores Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. The Eucharist is displayed in a special holder called a monstrance and people come to pray and worship Jesus continually through the day in Sacred Heart Church and at Our Lady of Walsingham Church. Can we not give Jesus a few minutes of love and adoration?
