Catholic Church in Fareham and Portchester Newsletter
THE UNION

Thought for the Week
The contrast in the opening verse of the gospel between the crowd (a large, unspecified group) and Jesus’ withdrawing to go up a mountain to teach the disciples (a smaller, select group) connects well with the remnant mentioned twice in the first reading. God indeed calls all of us to blessedness. To be faithful to this identity means that we live out of this identity of blessedness. We are the remnant. We live “to seek justice, seek humility,” we “do no wrong and speak no lies” because God has claimed us and given us our identity. None can disturb us because we are claimed by God. The kingdom of heaven is already at hand in us, the blessed remnant.

Bishop Crispian, is seeking applications from committed baptised Catholics who are parents of children currently registered at the school. The governors of a Catholic school work as a team, in close co-operation with the headteacher and all staff. In addition to the legal responsibilities of the Governing Body, the Foundation Governors have a responsibility for preserving the religious character of the school, sustaining and developing the school as a Catholic educating community in accordance with Canon (Church) Law and the teaching of the Catholic Church and giving clear witness, as individuals, and as a team, to the Gospel message and to the Church’s teaching. Appropriate training is available. Lack of experience in education in a Catholic school should not deter anyone from applying if there is a genuine desire to serve the mission of the Church. Applications packs are available from the Parish Priest, the School Office or the Department for Schools Governance, Park Place Pastoral Centre, Winchester Road, Wickham, PO17 5HA. Closing date for applications is 29th February 2008.
