PPC Members are advised that the March meeting has been cancelled. The next meeting will take place on 2nd April at Our Lady of Walsingham Church at 7.30pm.

The Chrism Mass will be celebrated in St John’s Cathedral, Edinburgh Road, Portsmouth on Tuesday of Holy Week, 18th March at 11.00am.

These will be available after Mass this weekend.
41 Portland Street, Fareham
The Parish has commenced refurbishment works at 41 Portland Street which are expected to last twelve weeks. No-one is allowed on the site at No. 41 without the permission of the contractor (this is a Health and Safety requirement.) The contractors will need places for their vehicles and equipment, therefore, the church car park in Hartlands Road is not to be used by parishioners for the duration of the contract. No unauthorised person is to park either in the Presbytery driveway or the drive of No. 41 in any circumstances. I know this is a real inconvenience, especially at Mass times, but we have no other option if we wish this work to continue.

Pilgrimages to Medjugorje
Yvette Harrington is exploring the possibility of organising a pilgrimage to Medjugorje in late June. If you are interested, then please give Yvette a call on 01329 832781. Cost would be around £475.00.
If June is not convenient, another pilgrimage is planned from 19th to 26th September 2008, flying from Gatwick and is being arranged by Barry and Jo Henwood of Bournemouth. The cost is £415.00 per person on a shared room basis (single room supplement of £70.00). Give a ring on 01202 398216 if you are interested. There is a poster in the porch.

Park Place Pastoral Centre
The Park Place Website has been recently re-launched to give more up-to-date and comprehensive information on the facilities and accommodation available at Park Place. Sister Anysia, the Sister-in-Charge says: “We hope parishes and individuals will visit our new site and be encouraged to consider using the excellent facilities, including en-suite rooms, which we are now able to offer to visitors. Many parishes, individuals and lay organisations already come to Park Place, but we would like to invite others to come for meetings, conferences, family gatherings, youth group activities and also as individuals to enjoy the peace and tranquillity which is ever present here. There are many interesting events in our programme, both spiritual and social. We look forward to welcoming you both to our new web site and subsequently to Park Place itself.”

THE UNION
Thought
for the Week
The restoration of the blind man’s physical sight culminates in the spiritual insight (faith) that Jesus is the “Son of Man” worthy of worship. But getting to that point is difficult: he is unrecognised by friends, challenged by authorities, unsupported by parents, expelled from the synagogue. Yet with each obstacle his vision of faith is sharpened and his resolve is strengthened. The blind man’s story is the story of every Christian: we grope for faith in the midst of adversities; and Jesus comes to find us.

Donations of Easter eggs, chocolates and cakes would be very much appreciated and can be left at the Parish Office or in the Sacred Heart Hall. Thank you for your continued support. The Lenten Buffet Lunch raised a magnificent sum of £910.00 for the Lenten Appeal. Thank you to all who helped, supported and kindly gave donations.

Mothering Sunday
The fourth Sunday of Lent is Mothering Sunday, a day when children give presents, flowers and cards to their mothers. Traditionally, it was a time when people visited their “mother” church, or main church or cathedral and this became an occasion for family reunions and children who were working away returned home. Servants and apprentices were given the day off to visit their mother.

Could Extraordinary Ministers of Communion make arrangements for transport of sick and elderly parishioners whom they visit, if appropriate? The Mass is also for those who wish spiritual renewal. Tea will be provided after the service, by the SVP. Should anyone wish transport please make contact with Mary Cadogan on 01329 235987 or Anne Lamb on 01329 289721.
Thanks from Home-Start
“It is with heartfelt gratitude that we write to you, to say an enormous thank you for the money raised during your Advent Appeal; which has been kindly donated to Home-Start Gosport and Fareham. Words seem so inadequate with regards to the amount of money church members have raised on our behalf, it is truly amazing and such a wonderful answer to prayer. As you are aware this money will be used to provide a much needed treat of a day trip to Paultons Park for all our families during this coming summer and help to fund new toys and craft equipment for our three support groups. The Paultons Park trip will be taking place in June and we would love to up date you regarding the event with a news type letter including photos and comments from all those involved in the event………” Jacky Morris Co-ordinator.
