41 Portland Street, Fareham
The Parish has commenced refurbishment works at 41 Portland Street which are expected to last twelve weeks. No-one is allowed on the site at No. 41 without the permission of the contractor (this is a Health and Safety requirement.) The contractors will need places for their vehicles and equipment, therefore, the church car park in Hartlands Road is not to be used by parishioners for the duration of the contract. No unauthorised person is to park either in the Presbytery driveway or the drive of No. 41 in any circumstances. I know this is a real inconvenience, especially at Mass times, but we have no other option if we wish this work to continue.

THE UNION
Thought
for the Week
Ever the servant, Jesus ministers to the disciples on their way to Emmaus by opening for them the Scriptures and opening their eyes to recognise him in the breaking of the bread. Immediately, the disciples make known the good news; they return to Jerusalem to recount what had taken place on the way. We, too, must take up this mission and make the risen Christ known through our own words and deeds.
From Living Liturgy
Thank You
Father Joe would like to thank everyone for their generous Easter Offerings and joins Canon Richard, Father David, Father Tony, and Deacon Langford in thanking all in the Parish for their cards and kind wishes at Easter. |
Rock ‘n’ Roll Event in Fareham
A brand new event will take Fareham town centre by storm on Saturday 17th May – Fareham’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Reunion promises to be a fun, lively and colourful event for the whole family – music from the 60’s, rock ‘n’ roll dancers and a display of up to 100 classic and vintage motor bikes from a range of local owners’ clubs will bring the town centre alive from 9.00am to 3.00pm. If you own a pre-1972 motor bike and would like to be involved, please contact Chris Linney at Rafferty Newman on 01329 233424.
Enrich your Marriage
When someone buys a new car they usually want to look after it. The manufacturer recommends that they check the battery, tyres and oil and get it serviced on a regular basis. Relationships also need to have a check-up from time to time. A Marriage Encounter Weekend gives married couples time to look at their relationship. It is not for couples with serious problems. It is an enrichment experience. The weekend is spent listening to a series of presentations on various aspects of relationship, including the Catholic Church’s vision for Marriage. After each presentation some time is spent as a couple, reflecting on what has been heard. Apart from mealtimes and the concluding Mass, the weekend is spent together as a couple. It is a private weekend with no group discussions. The next weekend which is convenient for travel is at West Wickham, Kent on 20th to 22nd June.
Engaged Couples
An Engaged Encounter Weekend is similar to a Marriage Encounter Weekend, with the emphasis on communication and relationship building. It is recommended that couples attend a weekend well in advance, ideally at least six months before their wedding day, to allow any uncertainties to be explored properly. A non-residential weekend is to be held near Chichester from 31st May to 1st June. Accommodation can be arranged if required. For further details please contact Chris and Mary Farrall on 01962 620289 or visit the website www.wwme.org.uk through which you can also arrange a booking.
No charge is made for the Weekends, but married couples are asked to make a donation of £10.00 for a Marriage Encounter Weekend and engaged couples pay a booking deposit of £25.00. Later, on both weekends, couples are asked to make a donation towards the Movement’s costs. |

Thanks from the Catholic Children’s Society
“I am writing to say a sincere thank you to all the parishioners for your recent gift. As you are already aware, your support enables us to continue to grow and develop our work, for and on behalf of the Catholic community, with children, young people and families in your diocese. The services we operate provide long term support to a diverse range of individuals, families and communities. We are constantly exploring new and innovative ways in which to respond to the changing needs of children and families. Ann Hoggan”
Fire in the Darkness – Chartres Pilgrimage
The Chartres Pilgrimage is an ancient tradition in France which has been given new vigour by the association Notre-Dame de Chrétienté which has organised it for the last 25 years. It is a walk of prayer and penance to the glory of God and Our Blessed Lady. Encouraged by the Pope and numerous bishops, 15,000 pilgrims (including 850 from outside France) take part in a three-day walk of 70 miles, making this the largest pilgrimage of its kind in Western Europe, both in the distance covered and in the number of pilgrims. The pilgrimage takes place from 9th to 13th May 2008. The total cost for adults is £230.00 which includes coach travel to France, two night’s hotel (B&B) accommodation (one in Paris and one in Chartres), 2 nights tented accommodation, pilgrimage registration, pilgrimage booklet, 3 course meal with a quarter bottle of wine on Monday evening, guides and return by coach on Tuesday. Please see the leaflets in the church porch for contact details.
Ever Thought about Samaritans?

Tea and biscuits will be provided. They are seeking people willing to train as Listening Volunteers to support callers; or who would make a donation or help with fund raising for Samaritans; or assist with publicity or raising awareness. If you would like to attend the open event, please email no later than Friday 11th April.

Calling the Youth of the Parish

Helpers are required for duties ranging from pushing wheelchairs, assisting in the Accueil, to serving meals.
