This Passing World
This world is not our eternal dwelling
but our little-while wandering.

There is a time for weeping,
and there is a time for laughing.

But as you see, He sets the time for weeping earlier;
it is the time of this wretched world,
and the laughing time will come later in heaven.

There is also a time for sowing and a time for reaping, too.
Now we must sow in this world,
and then we shall have in heaven, a merry, laughing harvest for ever.

St Thomas More,
A Dialogue of Comfort against Tribulation.

THE UNION

Thought for the Week
The gospel and the first reading from Hosea show us what living liturgy is all about: walk the walk, live the worship. At Mass we are called to share in the messianic banquet of the Lord and to be fed with heavenly food, the very Body and Blood of Christ. In turn we are called to invite others into the banquet of our everyday lives, paying attention to the dignity and needs of the other. It’s that simple. In this we are only following the example of Jesus.

The Pharisees separated themselves from others by their strict observance of the Law. Jesus demonstrates by his table fellowship with tax collectors and sinners that the deepest meaning of the Law is not separation but fellowship and mercy. In this gospel we are called to follow Jesus to the table where fellowship is an expression of divine mercy.

Thank You
Much appreciation and thanks to Captain John McGrath for his most interesting and captivating talk on the Treasures of Lebanon. The evening concluded with a social gathering at which an appetizing selection of cheeses, wine and sweet delights were served. Special thanks to John, to Marie and Barbara who supervised the raffle and to those who prepared the food. We were pleased to welcome parishioners from Stubbington and Park Gate parishes. The ‘evening’ raised £375.00 for the Sacred Heart Church Renovation Fund.

Treasures of Lebanon
John McGrath wishes to express his sincere thanks to Pauline Jackson and Peter and Anna Chandler for all their hard work in ensuring that everything ran like clockwork and for the excellent spread afterwards.

The Rowans Hospice, Purbrook – helping people with cancer
