Back to School
The Catholic School is of inestimable value to the life of the Church but cannot take the place of a Christian home. The support needed by the school is provided by the whole community. We thank God for our own school as we welcome staff and pupils back for the new term at St Jude’s.
Attention! All members of the Stewardship Committee (and anyone else interested)
There is a Stewardship meeting after 11.00am Mass on Sunday 7th September at St Jude’s School.

There is no charge for coming to the Open Day. If you would like to come please call Marilyn Seden on 01329 834645 or email It is important to book a place on a tour as numbers are strictly limited. THE UNION
Thought
for the Week
Jesus forthrightly reveals to his disciples what awaits – death, but also resurrection. If we want to go where Jesus ultimately went – to glory – there is only one road: to Jerusalem where death awaits. The human response is to recoil (Peter); the divine call is to take up the cross. Jesus does not expect of us any suffering he himself has not endured; Jesus shares with us the glory he himself is given.
People sometimes experience suffering as something gone wrong, as the absence of God, or as being punished by God. In light of the cross and resurrection, however; suffering can become a more intense experience of God’s presence and God’s promise.

Working with children
The Diocesan Safeguarding Co-ordinator has advised us that all activities at which children are left in the care of volunteers, e.g. catechesis, Liturgy of the Word with Children, should have a register which records the names of all those present, children and adults. This serves to protect all those involved and is a minimum requirement for activities involving children. Some parishes have found that an effective way of keeping a register is to use a card system: children who attend on a regular basis pick up their personalised pre-prepared card as they come into church and hand it to the group leader. The register is then prepared after the event. Visitor cards are available for ‘one off’ or infrequent attenders. For further information, contact Angela McGrory on 023 9282 5430.

Can You Help in the Church?
Our three churches are cared for in many ways by different people. Each of our three churches has a small group of people who meet once a week to clean that particular church. Similarly, a small number of people take a turn to help to arrange the flowers in the Sacred Heart Church, St Philip Howard Church or the Church of Our Lady of Walsingham. More helpers are needed. If you could spare a little time to help to clean one of our churches or to take a turn in arranging the flower displays, please speak to Father Joe. More details of these activities are available in our Parish Handbook.
