Catholic Church in Fareham and Portchester Newsletter
THE UNION

Thought for the Week
In the gospel, Jesus teaches his disciples how to deal with conflicts in the Church. The challenge he lays down is the hard work of addressing rifts directly, honestly, repeatedly and prayerfully. The desired outcome of the entire process is repentance and reconciliation. What is essentially at stake is not merely the healing of a personal rift, but the very life of the Church as a community.

In our own lives, we know how easily relationships can be damaged and how difficult it is to heal them. Both being confronted for our own wrongdoings and confronting the wrongs of others are painful; yet healing and reconciliation are only possible by an honest exchange.
From Living Liturgy

A Day with St Ignatius
A day of prayer on Saturday 4th October led by Fr John Edwards, SJ – 9.30am to 5.00pm – talks, rosary, Mass, Confessions – cost £11.00. This takes place at Heath Lodge, Trampers Lane, North Boarhunt, PO17 6DH. Pre-booking is essential. Call 01329 832781 for further information or to book.

Spreading the Word – A Day with John Vaughan-Neil
On Saturday 4th October at St Joseph’s Church, Ann’s Hill Road, Gosport. Evangelising others is for most of us just too daunting for words. In his first talk, John examines what may be holding us back. In his second talk he will share with us some of the basic principles which he learned from his own early experience. See the poster for further details.

Personal Prayer in the Catholic Tradition
There are some leaflets in the church porch on Personal Prayer in the Catholic Tradition. Please take a copy.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness above all sets free the person who had the courage to grasp it.

Vacancy in Shanklin Hotel
After two years, two valued members of staff have decided to return home to continue their studies. We are therefore looking for two staff to replace them. Work would include housework, waiting and kitchen work. Food handling/preparation experience would be an advantage for at least one of the positions. These positions would ideally suit friends or a couple. We are a friendly hotel and regard each other as “family” as much as colleagues. The position includes accommodation and would involve working over Christmas. For further information, please ring Phil on 01983 882790.
