THE UNION
Thought
for the Week
All three of these Sundays have used the vineyard as an image for God’s kingdom. This is a vineyard in which labourers experience God’s generosity, in which the landowner’s Son shares in the labour and for which God cares faithfully.
A message of judgement is often hard for us to hear. However, it is an essential aspect of the faithful proclamation of the Gospel and calls us to accountability for the way we live.

Could Extraordinary Ministers of Communion make arrangements for transport of sick and elderly parishioners whom they visit, where appropriate. Proven Faith
A strong faith must endure tests. A living faith must always grow. Our faith in Jesus Christ, to be such, must frequently face others’ lack of faith.

Hospitals and the Data Protection Act
The Patients Charter requires Hospital authorities to care for the religious and spiritual needs of their patients, while the Data Protection Act forbids those authorities to pass sensitive personal data, like religious affiliation of patients, to chaplains unless the individual patient has expressly requested this. Therefore, when parishioners are admitted to hospital they should make sure that they tell the hospital staff taking their details that they are Catholics, and express their wish that this information be passed to the Roman Catholic Chaplain. Those responsible for children or for those who are unconscious when admitted should do likewise.

Abortion Warning
Archbishop Peter Smith, Chair of the Department of Christian Responsibility and Citizenship of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, has warned that if Catholics fail to act there is a danger that abortion on demand could become a reality. Proposed amendments of the Human Fertilization and Embryology Bill would effectively establish abortion on demand by allowing it to take place with the approval of only one doctor, allow nurses and midwives to perform abortions and remove the right of doctors to object to arranging or performing an abortion on grounds of conscience.
