THE UNION
Thought
for the Week
Civil authority can be used to further God’s work, as in the case of Cyrus the Persian who liberates the Jews from Babylonian captivity. But civil authority does not have an ultimate claim on people; our obligations are owed primarily to God and secondarily to Caesar. When conflicts arise, is it Caesar or is it God we serve?
