THE UNION

Thought for the Week
The reason for loving our neighbour is spelled out clearly in the first reading. Israel’s love of neighbour rests on two foundations. First, Israel knows from personal experience what it is to be treated badly; they must not treat others the same way. Second, because their God is compassionate, they (God’s people) must also be compassionate.

Sometimes, we express our love of God only in terms of religious practices. Genuine love of God must be expressed in care for widows, orphans, the poor and indeed all our neighbours.
