Sacred Heart Catholic Church Lenten Discussion Groups
Once again Lent is just round the corner and led discussions will take place informally in ecumenical groups.

Churches Together in Fareham’s topic, based on the York Courses is ‘Faith, Hope and Love.’ All are invited to take part, so please come along and join in. For further details see the notice board. Application forms are at the back of the church.

Churches Together in Portchester’s course is based on the film ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ by C S Lewis and takes place on Thursdays during Lent: 5th March at St Mary’s Church in Portchester Castle, 12th March at Our Lady of Walsingham, 19th March at the Methodist Church in Castle Street, 26th March at St Mary’s and 2nd April at Our Lady of Walsingham – all beginning at 7.30pm. All welcome.

Lent Lunches – Churches Together in Portchester
The Lent Lunches and Shoppers’ Services take place on Wednesdays during Lent at Portchester Methodist Church in Castle Street beginning at 12.00 noon. Catholics will lead the Service and prepare the lunch on 18th March. All Proceeds will be shared between CAFOD and Christian Aid. All are welcome.

Women’s World Day of Prayer
Women’s World Day of Prayer is almost upon us again and takes place on Friday 6th March. This year in Fareham the services will be held at the Methodist Church in King’s Road. They will be at 2.00pm (Speaker: Rev Gillian Slaymaker) and 7.30pm (Speaker: Ms Lynne Matthews.) The Portchester service takes place at Portchester Methodist Church in Castle Street beginning at 2.15pm. This year’s service has been prepared by the women of Papua New Guinea. Everyone is welcome to join in what has been described as a worldwide ‘Mexican wave of prayer.’

Date for your Diary
Moonlit Memories 12 mile sponsored walk in aid of The Rowans Hospice. The walk starts at midnight on Saturday 20th June 2009 from Southsea Common, along Southsea seafront into the Historic Naval Dockyard, through Gunwharf Quays and into Old Portsmouth. The £20.00 entry fee includes a commemorative T shirt, drinks en-route, celebration breakfast, goody bag and a medal at the finish. Ash Wednesday
Wednesday 25th February, Ash Wednesday, is a day of fasting and abstinence. Ashes will be imposed at the 9.10am Mass at St Philip Howard Church and 7.30pm Mass at Sacred Heart Church.

Medjugorje 2009
A pilgrimage to Medjugorje is being arranged from 21st September to 28th September 2009 flying from Gatwick, The cost is £465.00 per person, shared room basis – single room supplement £91.00. Full details are shown on the poster on the notice board.

URGENT Appeal

15th Fareham Scout Group urgently required someone to take over the post of Treasurer to keep the books as from 1st January, following the retirement of the current Treasurer at the end of our financial year. You do not have to have a child in Scouting or be an accountant!! We will arrange guidance and possibly a course (if you would like). However, if we do not find someone to take on this position as part of the Executive Committee, under the terms of the Charities Act the group cannot continue to operate. Try a one day marriage refresher on Saturday 4th April at St Bede’s, Popley Way, Basingstoke from 10.00am to 4.00pm. Coffee from 9.30am – please bring food for a sharing table. This day is for married couples however long you have been marred; married couples who want to give their marriage some time for reflection; married couples who would like to give their marriage an MOT. Celebrating Marriage 2009
On 25th April, Bishop Crispian will be celebrating a special Mass for those marking significant anniversaries of their wedding during 2009. If you know of anyone celebrating an anniversary of 25, 40, 50, 60 years or more, please contact Keith Chappell at the Department for Pastoral Formation so that they can be invited. This is not only for Catholics married to Catholics but for all members of our diocesan community. The time of the Mass will be advised shortly.

Lenten Retreat
A Retreat – Listening to God - takes place at Park Place Pastoral Centre from 4.30pm on Friday 3rd April until 4.00pm on Saturday 4th April 2009, led by David and Joyce Huggett. The cost is £58.00 residential full board. Non residents may attend from 7.30pm to 8.30pm on Friday and 10.00am to 4.00pm on Saturday at a cost of £16.00 (bring a packed lunch on Saturday, coffee and tea are available. Details are on the notice board.

CRB Forms
Anyone who needs to complete the CRB form is invited to come to St Jude’s School on Thursday 26th February between 7.00pm and 8.00pm. Appropriate forms will be available and information can be checked and sent off. You will need to bring a passport, driving licence, birth or marriage certificate and a utility bill showing a current address.

Cabrini Children’s Society
On Sunday 22nd February the annual collection for the Cabrini Children’s Society (previously the Catholic Children’s Society) will take place. Cabrini provides wide ranging services to children, young people, families and to adults with learning disabilities. All donations received from parish sources will be held in a restricted fund that will go towards the following areas of work: providing flexible, affordable and accessible support to a range of communities; support for schools, providing a home-for-life for adults with learning disabilities; offering personalised sacramental preparation to children and adults with learning disabilities and supporting people who were in their care homes to access their records and, if required, facilitate reunions with birth relatives.
