Sacred Heart Catholic Church Lenten Discussion Groups
Churches Together in Fareham’s topic, based on the York Courses is ‘Faith, Hope and Love.’ All are invited to take part, so please come along and join in. For further details see the notice board. Application forms are at the back of the church.

Churches Together in Portchester’s course is based on the film ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ by C S Lewis and takes place on Thursdays during Lent: 19th March at the Methodist Church in Castle Street, 26th March at St Mary’s and 2nd April at Our Lady of Walsingham – all beginning at 7.30pm. All welcome.

Lent Lunches – Churches Together in Portchester
The Lent Lunches and Shoppers’ Services take place on Wednesdays during Lent at Portchester Methodist Church in Castle Street beginning at 12.00 noon. Catholics will lead the Service and prepare the lunch on 18th March. All Proceeds will be shared between CAFOD and Christian Aid. All are welcome.

2009 Lenten Breakfasts
Everyone is warmly welcome to attend the Lenten Breakfast each Thursday during Lent, held in the Sacred Heart Hall following the 7.00am Mass. All proceeds to the Parish Lenten Appeal.

Shelagh Phillimore RIP
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Shelagh Phillimore, who died recently. Shelagh’s funeral takes place on Tuesday of this week, 17th March, at 9.30am in Sacred Heart Church.

Mass for the Sick
To be celebrated on Saturday 28th March at 3.00pm in St Philip Howard Church. Could Extraordinary Ministers of Communion make arrangements for transport of sick and elderly parishioners whom they visit, where appropriate? Tea will be provided in St Philip Howard Church Hall after the Service, by the SVP. First Aiders
Current Health & Safety legislation puts a greater emphasis on the need to make suitable arrangements in case of a medical emergency at Mass. In order to fulfil these requirements would any suitably qualified first aider who is prepared to offer their services please advise Fr Joe accordingly, including which Mass they attend. Confirmation has been received that anyone who has qualified at their place of work is covered by insurance to serve in this way. It would be necessary to see the certificate awarded on qualification. We need qualified persons to serve at all four Masses.

15th Fareham Scout Group
“All parents and guardians of our Scouts, Cubs and Beavers are cordially invited to attend the AGM and Celebration Evening of 15th Fareham Scout Group in St Philip Howard Hall on Friday 20th March at 6.30pm. This is your opportunity to hear about the past year, look forward with us to 2009, ask any questions of the team or Executive Committee and be involved in what your children achieve. Gift Aid
The Gift Aid envelopes will be available after 9.00am, 11.00am and 6.00pm Masses on Sunday 22nd March and the following weekend at all Masses including Our Lady of Walsingham.

Lourdes Pilgrimage
The Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes takes place from 21st to 28th August 2009. Application forms are available in the Parish Office.

3rd Sunday of Lent

Sacred Heart Catholic ChurchStations of the Cross
Stations of the Cross will take place on Fridays in Lent at 7.30pm in Sacred Heart Church and on Sundays at 4.30pm in Our Lady of Walsingham Church.

Lenten Retreat
A Retreat – Listening to God - takes place at Park Place Pastoral Centre from 4.30pm on Friday 3rd April until 4.00pm on Saturday 4th April 2009, led by David and Joyce Huggett. Details are on the notice board.

Parish Lenten Buffet Lunch

Francis
You are warmly invited to a performance of Francis, a compelling new drama which will be performed for the first time at Park Place in Wickham on Thursday 7th, Friday 8th and Saturday 9th May. The play takes a fresh look at the ideas of Francis of Assisi and interprets his message for the 21st century. The next Malayalam Mass takes place on Sunday 5th April at 5.00pm at Our Lady of Walsingham Church.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
There will be a meeting for all Adorers of the Blessed Sacrament on Thursday 19th March at 7.00pm in Sacred Heart Church. Please make every effort to attend.

News from the Vatican
Pope Benedict is calling for a renewal of the commitment to respect the dignity and vocation of women everywhere. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, he pledged his prayer for all women that they be evermore respected in their dignity.

Pope Benedict is also asking for the spiritual support of all the faithful during his visit to the Holy Land from 8th to 15th May this year. He will visit Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian Territories and will inaugurate a church at the site of Jesus’ baptism in the River Jordan.

Bishops and priests of 82 countries have been called to Rome to study the challenges and possibilities posed to evangelisation by new digital media. They are to reflect on web pages, blogs and social networks, e.g. Facebook, YouTube, Flickr and Twitter.
