Catholic Church in Fareham and Portchester Newsletter

From Fr Joe

Last week about 50 people—mostly from our Pastoral Area-- were with Fr John Cooke and myself on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. It was a hectic and tiring schedule trying to cram a 10 day itinerary into 7. It was a wonderful opportunity to visit the places associated with Our Lord and the Gospels. But it was also a time to share in an intensive spiritual experience with people who came from all different backgrounds and ages. One can go to places like the Holy Land, Lourdes, Fatima and Knock on one’s own and it can be a rewarding time but going with a group can make it a deeper experience as joys shared increase for everyone. As a priest, to able to celebrate Holy Mass in places like the Mount of Beatitudes, near the Sea of Galilee, in the Shepherd’s Field at Bethlehem and at Our Lord’s Tomb in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre was an amazing privilege that won’t soon be forgotten. It has also brought a new perspective to the Scriptures as I can now visualise so many of the familiar Bible stories. I remembered all of you in my prayers and was grateful for yours.

Both our office staff are off sick so booking Masses and other admin will be disrupted until further notice. I’ve attempted to produce this newsletter myself, so for the many mistakes:
“I humbly beg pardon and ask absolution!”
