From Fr Joe
Plus ça change
With the feast of Christ the King, the Church’s liturgical year comes to an end. Next Sunday we begin all over again with the first Sunday of Advent. The Church’s liturgical year is one way she attempts to express the mysteries of Christ in the whole plan of God’s salvation. What we see happening in nature during the seasons is often reflected in what we are celebrating in the liturgy. As an example, in these last days of November when we often have storms, the days getting shorter and shorter, the leaves on the trees are almost at their end and so on we find in the readings at Mass the subject is on the “last days”—first, in a general sense, i.e. at some point this world will come to an end, and then for our mortal selves in particular. Although uncomfortable, at times we need to confront these sobering facts of life. But then next week we begin in Advent with joy, hope and expectation. The joy, hope and expectation that every couple feel as they prepare to welcome a new life into their lives.
