CHRISTIAN AID WEEK
Sunday 9th to Saturday 15th May
The money raised will be used to fight poverty worldwide. It goes direct to church organizations; none of it is given to governments. This Parish asks for volunteers to work with other Christians from Churches Together in Fareham. It is Stewardship in the wider community. Please see the notice board for the roads we need to cover. Anyone interested in delivering and/or collecting envelopes in the Fareham area, please contact Alison Ivison on 01329 230049. We also need volunteers to count the money on the Saturday morning.
ANNUAL PILGRIMAGE TO WALSINGHAM
The annual pilgrimage to Walsingham takes place on Tuesday 6th July. The cost per person is £35.00. All parishioners are welcome. Please contact Yvonne Byrne on 01329 311911 for further details.
COMMUNITY OF OUR LADY OF WALSINGHAM
‘Ever Ancient, Ever New’ – a weekend for young adults aged 18-38, inviting them to consider the beauty of a call to the religious life in the 21st century – Friday 14th May (eve) to Sunday 16th May 2010 in the Essex countryside with the Community of Our Lady of Walsingham. This is a young, vibrant, contemplative community founded under the care of the Cardinal in 2004. For further details please call Sr Camilla on 01277 373959/848.
ECOLOGICAL ISSUES
Pope Benedict has often spoken out on ecological issues and has been called the ‘green pope’. A useful guide to what he has said on creation and our responsibilities toward it came in a book published last year by journalist, Woodeene Koenig-Bricker, called “Ten Commandments for the Environment”.
HOSPITALS AND DATA PROTECTION
The Patients Charter requires Hospital authorities to care for the religious and spiritual needs of their patients, while the Data Protection Act forbids those authorities to pass sensitive personal data, like religious affiliation of patients, to chaplains unless the individual patient has expressly requested this. Therefore, when parishioners are admitted to hospital they should make sure that they tell the hospital staff taking their details that they are Catholics, and express their wish that this information be passed to the Roman Catholic Chaplain. Those responsible for children or for those who are unconscious when admitted should do likewise.
