PARISH QUILT
Thank you to all those who have returned squares promptly – there are some beautiful efforts but there are many more still to come! We will begin stitching them on 17th May so if yours is still in production, could you make a real effort this week and get them back to us next weekend. The boxes will remain in church for the next few weeks so that late offerings can be added later.

HAITI EARTHQUAKE
CAFOD supporters in England and Wales raised more than £4.7 million for CAFOD’s Haiti earthquake appeal (£270,380 from the diocese of Portsmouth alone.) Now, more than three months after the earthquake, food, shelter, clean water and healthcare have been provided to hundreds of thousands of people.
RETIRING COLLECTION
There is a Retiring Collection next weekend for World Communications.
PRAYER IN REPARATION
The Bishops of England and Wales have asked all of us to dedicate the Fridays in May as special days of prayer and reparation for the sins of the Church. We will be having this in the Solent Pastoral Area by having Adoration from 10.00am to 9.00pm at Immaculate Conception in Stubbington. At 8.00pm there will be Rosary, Night Prayer and concluding with Benediction. Please note this will be the programme for the four Fridays in May and I would encourage all our parishioners to take part, even if you can only drop in for a few minutes.
15TH FAREHAM SCOUT GROUP
“Friends and members of 15th Fareham Scout Group are invited to attend the annual AGM and Presentation evening. It will be held at St Philip Howard Church Hall on 14th May 2010. The evening will begin at 6.30pm and will include awards to our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. It would, therefore, be excellent to see as many parents and parishioners there as possible, showing support for our young people. Tea and coffee will be served. Hope to see you there.” Mark Moorhen (Scout Group Chairman)
ITEMS FOR NEWSLETTER
Please ensure that items for inclusion in the Parish Newsletter are sent to Joan at the Parish Office by lunchtime on Wednesdays.
CHRISTIANS DO NOT NEED TO FEAR DEATH
Pope Benedict said recently that in a society where a fear of death drives some to despair, Christians are called to have hope founded on God’s love…….”the destiny of human existence: it flowers from the earth….in a precise point of the world….and is called to Heaven, to the homeland from which it comes mysteriously. The Christian is distinguished by the fact that he places his security in God, in a love so great that it can renew the whole world….We have a great and unfailing hope founded on the solid rock of the love of God which assures us that the life of those who die in Christ is not taken away, but transformed.”

CAN YOU HELP IN THE CHURCH?
Our three churches are cared for in many ways by different people. All of our three churches have a small group of people who meet once a week to clean that particular church. More helpers would be welcome. Similarly, a small number of people take a turn to help to arrange the flowers in the Sacred Heart Church, St Philip Howard Church or the Church of Our Lady of Walsingham. More helpers are needed. Help is also needed at Our Lady of Walsingham in caring for the church grounds. If you are able to help with any of the above, please speak to Father Joe.
