Entrance Antiphons for this week
Monday - In my justice I shall see your face, O Lord; when your glory appears, my joy will be full.
Tuesday – May all your works praise you, Lord, and your saints bless you; they will tell of the glory of your kingdom and proclaim your power.
Wednesday - Come you whom my Father has blessed, says the Lord; I was ill and you comforted me. I tell you, anything you did for one of my brothers, you did for me.
Thursday – The spirit of the Lord is upon me; he has anointed me. He sent me to bring good news to the poor and to heal the broken hearted.
Friday - Hail, holy Mother! The child to whom you gave birth is the King of heaven and earth for ever.
Saturday - I will look after my sheep, says the Lord, and I will raise up one shepherd who will pasture them. I, the Lord, will be their God. |

SEA SUNDAY
The Apostleship of the Sea was founded in 1922 and provides the pastoral outreach of the Catholic Church to all seafarers. 95% of all goods we use and consume in the UK are transported by sea but the conditions of seafarers are hidden from us. Typically recruited from Third World countries where wages are lower, seafarers work away from home for nine to twelve months at a time, often suffering loneliness, depression, dangerous working conditions, spiritual deprivation and exploitation. Apostleship of the Sea deploys port chaplains and ship visitors who welcome seafarers and provide for their pastoral and practical needs. Although the Apostleship of the Sea is an official Church agency, it receives no central funding from the Church, the Vatican or the Government and relies entirely on voluntary donations.
The annual Sea Sunday appeal is a vital source of income. There will be a retiring collection after Mass this weekend.
LIFT TO MASS
A lady living at Elson would appreciate a lift to Mass. If you are able to help, please notify Joan at the Parish Office.
DEDICATION OF THE ‘PARISH QUILT’
The new ‘Parish Quilt’ will be unveiled for the first time at the 11am Mass at St Philip Howard Church on Sunday 18th July. Many people have put a lot of time and effort into this project and it will be good to view the finished article. All are most welcome to attend.
SUMMER CONCERT
The Sacred Heart Choir will be giving a Summer Concert on Saturday 17th July in Sacred Heart Church to raise funds for a new organ keyboard. Ticket prices: £5.00 or £3.00 concessions. Tickets will be on sale this weekend.
PARISH DAY
The Parish Social Group would like to thank all who were generous enough to help at the Parish Day last Sunday and also those who donated prizes for the raffles. Particular thanks must go to Trevor Fry who stepped in at short notice and single-handedly provided the music and singing for the whole afternoon and to those who kept us fed and watered! The dancing by children from St Jude’s was lovely. Our gratitude goes to them for their hard work, to the parents who brought them along and supported them and to the teachers who trained them. There was a significant turnout of people from all three churches which made it a very enjoyable afternoon. It was lovely to see so many come along and support this event.

CAN YOU HELP THE RAINBOW CENTRE?
They are employing a Hungarian Conductor-teacher, Zsuzsa Jene, for their Summer Holiday Club. She requires a room from 25th July to 21st August. She is a mature lady in her early 40’s, friendly and reliable. She will be at work Monday to Friday approximately 9.30am to 4.30pm. In addition, the Rainbow Centre is employing a Hungarian Conductor, Zita, from 1st September. She is moving to England from Kuwait with her husband, Renil, who is a qualified Accountant. They require a room for about 3 to 4 weeks while they sort out housing arrangements. Please contact Magdi Kovacs on 01329 289500 or email
BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE
This is the time of year when we mention the Books of Remembrance, a very sad time for many people in the Parish. Last year we received many photos of deceased family and friends, entrusted to us to be included in one of the books, people from our own Parish, who have sadly departed over the years. This year it has been decided to start yet another book, this will be for deceased babies and children of the Parish and friends of the Parish. This we understand will be a very sensitive area for many people but we feel that anyone who has lost a baby or small child should have the opportunity to place their photo or prayer into their own Special Book. If after you have read this, you feel you would like to send a photo etc. to be placed into one of the books, please place it in an envelope marked “Book of Remembrance” or “Children’s Book of Remembrance” together with their name etc. and also a contact number for yourself, then leave with Joan in the Parish Office.
