Sacred Heart Catholic Church SNAP – SAY NO AND PHONE
These discos were originally created by Crime Stoppers and have run from Ferneham Hall for the past 11 years, strongly supported by the local Police. Despite being popular with around 800 young people attending each disco, volunteer numbers have dropped so low that the ratio of volunteers to young people was not enough to continue operating safely and the former SNAP committee has folded. It is hoped to form a new SNAP Working Group to re-establish these activities for young people between the ages of 11 to 16. The aim of the initiative is to encourage young people to reject drug misuse and associated crime and to provide a safe and enjoyable environment to socialise with their peers. If you feel you can help please ring Narinder Bains, the Council’s Community Safety Manager, on 01329 236100. Proposed dates for future events are 26th November 2010, 28th January 2011 and 29th April 2011.

Entrance Antiphons for this week

Monday - The saints are happy in heaven because they followed Christ. They rejoice with him for ever because they shed their blood for love of him.

Tuesday – Today let us honour St Laurence, who spent himself for the poor of the Church. Thus he merited to suffer martyrdom and to ascend in joy to Jesus Christ the Lord.

Wednesday - Here is a wise and faithful virgin who went with lighted lamp to meet her Lord.

Thursday – The Lord is my inheritance and my cup; he alone will give me my reward. The measuring line has marked a lovely place for me; my inheritance is my great delight.

Friday - The saints are happy in heaven because they followed Christ. They rejoice with him for ever because they shed their blood for love of him.

Saturday - Come, you whom my Father blessed, says the Lord: I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of my brothers or sisters, you did for me.

SPONSORED WALK IN AID OF WORLD YOUTH DAY AND CAFOD -SATURDAY 28TH AUGUST – STUBBINGTON AND LEE-ON-THE-SOLENT
On the 28th of August, Fr. Pat and a number of our young people from our Parish of Fareham and Portchester will be joining other young people from the Diocese of Portsmouth on this Sponsored walk in raising funds for the World Youth Day in Madrid in 2011. In the next few weeks, our young parishioners who are hoping to go to Madrid in 2011 will be looking for sponsorship so please support and encourage them if you can. The cost for each young person will be approximately £1000. No doubt, many of them have already begun saving towards this but we in the Parish would also like to assist them financially. So, the 28th of August begins a funding campaign over the next year. We are very blessed in our Parish to have such dedicated young people and by enabling then to go to Madrid, it gives them the opportunity to experience the youthfulness and culture of the universal Church. This in turn will enable them in their mission outreach to other young people. Many of us have expressed our concern regarding what’s available to young people in our Parish so this is an opportunity to support and encourage but especially pray for our young people over the next year.
