Catholic Church in Fareham and Portchester

Sister Julia Flannery
After seven years working in Fareham and Portchester Sr. Julia retired at the end of January 2002 for health reasons. After retiring as a Head teacher Sr. Julia came to Fareham in 1994. She began her ministry based at 38, Hartlands Road and later moved to Portchester. Sr. Julia has worked tirelessly for the good of the people here, with tremendous energy, enthusiasm, conviction and loyalty. These qualities combine with her humour and compassionate nature to have provided this parish with a richly blessed ministry. On a personal note I would like to say thank you to Sr. Julia for the wholehearted support she has given to me personally in terms of the decisions I take as Parish Priest and in particularly difficult pastoral situations.

Sr. Julia will be missed at St. Christopher's Hospital and by the many people in her visiting book. With Sr. Mary she has worked very hard to help in the pastoral development at Our Lady of Walsingham and throughout the Parish

On Sunday 20th January 2002 there was Evening Prayer and Benediction at St. Philip Howard Church followed by a festive tea in St. Jude's School Hall. This provided us all with an opportunity to say thank you to Sr. Julia for all that she has done for us in her ministry in Fareham and Portchester.

Sr. Julia would like to say a very sincere thank you for your tremendous generosity. Lots of people gave her personal gifts and greetings in addition to the parish presentation. She would like to write to everyone individually but regrets that this will be impossible. Sr. Julia hopes that everyone will accept this note as an expression of her gratitude.

The celebration of Evening Prayer and Benediction and the reception at St. Jude's afterwards was all so wonderful. St. Julia says that her time in Portchester and Fareham has been among the happiest times of her life. She will always remember us in her prayers.
